Darkstar One: "shunimpl.dll missing"

Post by woogie »

Hi,Loaded up Darkstar One, patched to 1.3 and it pops up with shunimpl.dll (an obsolete api) missing on my Windows 7 x64.I know I fixed this a while back but cannot remember how. This DLL is present in system32 directory.Do you know how I can get this game working? I am thinking of uninstalling and leaving it with patch 1.2Thanks!

Yup. I did download this file from the same site and copied it to \windows\system32. The file already existed and a Microsoft website claims that the right version should be 10KiB exactly. However the one from the website above is around 6KB. Tried copying to the game directory as well but it did not take it.Troubleshooting windows is just not my thing anymore. I've been fixing unix problems for the last decade and it so much easier ;) Will keep searching... thanks Geraldine.

Oh well I was going to suggest that, ut nevermind.Btw, I would be very careful downloading random .dll files from a site it can be pretty dangerous, its far better to get the package that the .dll comes from in the first place.Or in this case, find the root cause of the problem:

You just need 3 steps to repair shunimpl.dll error:1: Download a registry cleaner and install it.2: Open the registry cleaner and scan you computer for free3: Click fix button and you done.

In some cases, those errors could indicate mostly a registry problem, a virus or malware issue.

You can fix a shunimpl.dll error and there are many ways to do it. A registry cleaner program can help by removing invalid shunimpl.dll registry entries that might be causing the DLL error.
I hope that is of some assistance to you.

All Ascaron games, including "DarkStar One", do not support x64 systems. (You might also want to install WinXp to a different partition, to prevent problems like these).

Now thats sad news indeed. Thanks for the reply. I will have to buy a new drive :( for XP as I think NTFS is different when sharing the same drive.

No, a 20 - 30 GB partition on your drive would be fine. If you have enough space you can use a programme like Partition Magic to create one without re-formatting your drive. Although be sure to BACK UP all of your data, before doing it. (And it is much better to install the older version of windows first). On the other hand you could try to create a virtual XP enviroment, with VMWare Player (it's free), and try to see if it works that way. (I was able to play Freelancer with VMWare Player). Although if the game is supported by it, it might run slower.
