We have a result! <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_crazy.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':girlcrazy:' /> -4,4,-1 Its about 45 ly from SOL The key was putting capital letters in the search box, i.e URA not Ura and being in the general area when in the map view.

If there Comets or Nebulas in the Game?I would think it is good if we could land on the surface of asteroids and planets and mine there with a laser beam rare natural resources and sell them for good money in other systems. <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

@robn,When announcing a new alpha, I think it would be nice to state whether or not saved games are compatible with the previous version. It would be helpful for nutcases like me who feel they must fly back to Earth to start a new game. <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I have a somewhat insignificant question. Pioneer has become the most engrossing and enjoyable space sim in my collection, but I've been spoiled by all these flashy new space games with brightly colored gases and stars livening up the blackness of space. I was wondering if there were any plans to add more color in the name of cheer and science fiction, or even something more subtle like variation in distant star coloring and a visible milky way (think celestia). Perhaps it is a shallow question and I should focus less on aesthetics, but I feel like it would add some charm.

Giant coloured background nebulae of the sort you see in the skyboxes of games like Freelancer and EVE are unlikely to be added, because they're just not realistic (as far as I know?). We do have a gradient band that sort of represents the Milky Way -- I would be happy for that to be made more interesting and attractive (and preferably closer to reality). Long exposure photos of the Milky Way from Earth show how beautiful it can be in the real world -- in fact my understanding is that if you can get away from the light pollution of the modern world it's quite amazing just by eye.John B

The galactic background can't just be a photo of our sky, because in the game we can fly around the galaxy, and the view would have to change. Big, bright nebulae don't really exist as such. They look big and bright through a telescope, but up close they'd lose their apparent brightness the same way that galaxies do.The nebula pictured above would occupy less than a pixel of background sky as seen from Sol, assuming a fairly normal graphics setup.

Ok, no Nebulars, but what about Comets or mineing on Asteriods and Planets,I think these things would be for additional variety

Well asteroids and planets already get generated. But there are no comets in the Pioneer 'verse (YET) <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />All of these flashy nebulae you see are generally "False Colour" or "Psuedo Colour" images. That means they have been detected with non-visual parts of the spectrum and then converted into nice colours. It's all made-up.And like Brian mentioned, they are a lot smaller than one would expect when viewed from our system. This explains it nicely if you can be bothered with the read <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> http://www.universet...al-photography/

Is there a way to clear labels, tags, names etc from the screen?Controls list says Tab to "toggle HUD mode" but that doesn't seem to change anything I can see.

Tab should hide object labels (so planet names, ship IDs, etc). It currently doesn't remove the control panel or other UI elements. If its not working, you might try checking your key bindings in the Control tab in Settings.

It's cool now, a rebind, restart, rebind back to tab seems to have solved it (most likely the restart did the job).Just some hiccup I guess, may well have been on my end.

I'm using pioneer under gnu-linux. My installation is located in /usr/games/pioneer-git and my user files are in ~/.pioneer.Is it possible for the user to add some music for "space", "near-planet", etc, in his ~/.pioneer user directory, leaving the structure located in /usr untouched?

Files that you put in ~/.pioneer/data (or equivalent on other platforms) will be visible in the game's data space and used as appropriate. Files with the same name will be used in preference to core files, so you can replace scripts, textures, whatever you like on an ad-hoc basis this way. The music player selects from all the available music, so any music you add this way will be used.Fyi, mods work exactly the same way, just the contents of the zip file are made visible instead.
