RE: FE2 savegame editor

I have not been successful getting the Elite 2 Saved Game editor to load in either Windows 7 or dosBOX for Mac.I'm curious- can I adjust the date saved in the game? Ie if it's Jul 2013 when I save, can I tweak the save file so it's Jan 2013 instead? Trying to see if I can avoid the drive failure due to lack of maintenance
