About Oolite

Oolite is a space sim game, inspired by Elite, powered by Objective-C and OpenGL, and designed as a small game that is easy for users to pick up, modify and expand upon. Almost every aspect of the game can be changed by using simple, free graphics packages and text editors.

An oolite (oh-oh-lite) is indeed a rock of some sort. Oolite comes from 'Object Oriented Elite' (or maybe because it's powered by Objective-C and OpenGL)!
i had wondered where the name came from myself. thanks for asking overlord.

Thanks for the help Cody, looks like the right sort of thing. However, you might want to let them know that I tried the 30 day trial of pinnacle game profiler they linked to, and it threw up a security threat warning after installing. I'm on AVG 2012 free version(which may not be that good). May be a false alarm but cant be too cautious these days.

Yeah, false positives can be tricky, and I think that AVG is a bit prone to them... beyond my ken, I'm afraid. My Norton's hates the trunk versions of Oolite, so I have to coerce it to accept and run them.

I suppose that gives you diplomatic immunity from all your atrocities in-game Cody. You should advertise your diplomatic status in your signature Your Excellency.

Thank you. I lurk here every now and then. Keeping in touch with what is happening on the other side. Activity has increased since diplomatic relations were established.

You called me sir? ;) The thing I most do nowadays is hunting for a RL job while running my own company at the same time so I have not so much time. But the job is to compensate for less income. But yeah back to this forum: Geraldine mentioned in a discussion over at the Oolite boards that we could showcase the latest OXP developments here. Problem is :D there are coming OXP's out on almost a daly bases (I'm not complaining ;) ). so keeping track and selecting and writing about it is difficult.

You called me sir? Salutations, your grace! Aye, RL can be a bastard at times, no doubt of that. As regards OXPs - as you say, too many being released to keep track of (especially ship models, some of which are basically mierda!), and I for one am very selective about which OXPs I use, let alone recommend. I mainly stick to eye-candy, being somewhat of a purist. In test-pilot mode however, I'll run outrageous stuff (such as the Colonial Viper - it has no place in my Ooniverse, but was great fun to test), but it gets removed from my game when I've signed-off on the job.

My advice is to pick ones that really grab people's attention. Go for ones that have that WOW factor. Remember, pictures can speak a 1000 words <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> Of course some of the best oxps I've tried are mainly story based, but people can find out about them later once they are on the hook! <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_lol.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Very true, and 'on the hook' is crucial - the game first, then the OXPs. You've already shown an interest in Xeptatl's Sword, Geraldine - that has a pretty good storyline, and needs an iron-assed ship piloted by an experienced commander who has already completed the native missions and is in G5. As does Coyote's Run (based on the Oofic Coyote) - highly recommended (but then I would say that - I wrote the screenplay).
