Very niiiiice pagroove! <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_sigh.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':girlsigh:' /> That was a thing I always thought needed attention in Oolite, especially the engine FX. That looks alot better! <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_crazy.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':girlcrazy:' />Oh and is that a Povray planet I spy in the background?Another thing pagroove, my ATI (AMD) graphics drivers broke version 1.76.1 and it wont start at all on my system. Would it be worth trying 1.77? I have a thread about my difficulties on the Oolite board here http://aegidian.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12975

It's a Famous Planet from the Famous Planets OXP merged and cubemapped and then placed into the povrayset for Galaxy 1.

Don't know. There are certain things different. But I don't know if your problem about not starting is solved. You can always try. Did you raise the question to Cim?One thing I like abut 1.77 trunk is that it's faster. Cim enhanced the performance in calculations of the space dust. And that makes this version feeling a lot smoother. (at least on my machine (macbook pro 2011)).Edited to add. The laser FX is now fantastic. The Engine FX is in the works. I like it so far but I think it could be a little bit better. But as I understand that is being worked on.

A Vampire MKIV shots multiple beams at a Moray Offender2 Monitors (Elite A original ships) Out of the Oldships2010.oxp. On the left the Monitor 1. and on the right the blue Monitor 2( a bonus ship in Oldships 2010 with enhanced specs. It goes a little faster 0.21 LM instead of the origninal 0.18.Docking at the glorious Griff Coriolis.A nice convoy. Consisting of a Orisis class, A Cobra Mk1 (neolite version) and an L crate hauler. Against the backdrop of a Povray planet.

<nods> I'm sure cim will improve on it... a little, anyway. The drive flares are/were one of the few last gfx effects that needed fixing.

I'm not crazy about the drive plumes, the look is cool but the streaming motion doesn't do it for me.I did post about it on the BB's Progress thread... which is why I'm hiding out here, but I had to be honest. Now the lasers on the other hand are unbelievably good, just as good as many AAA games.Seeing those beams cut through space all around you in a pitched battle is breathtaking.

Drive plumes are a very personal thing - some players actually prefer them as they were.

Great screenshots and vid pagroove! And thanks for answering my questions, I sent an email as stated in the bug reporting thread. It's really annoying these AMD drivers. They might simply be broken. Perhaps I should clean the lot out (including registry) and start again. Is there any timeline for when 1.77 will come out or just when it's ready?

Ha! The Devs tend to avoid fixed 'dates' for upcoming releases (well, among themselves they no doubt have a timeline/plan). But somehow, I think there may be a release due in time for winterfest (December 16th resonates) - we shall see! I am not privy to the inner circle, which is probably a very good thing, all things considered.

Outbound from Celaqula main with a holdful of furs, headed for Dawbern's Scheme. Despite its close proximity to the sun, this rock hermit is offering 98/t for furs. The new drive-flares look really good! Even missiles look much the better for them!

My attempt at an Oolite 'box art shot'. This is 100% in game. (not trying to recreate the BBC Box exactly but it comes close). For 100% we nee a white Corriolis Station like on the Box.

Showcasing Smiv's shipset. Love the damage. You can see it up near the cockpit.

Nice one Ironhoud. I love Smivs' set too. I have them besides the Griff Shipset. Love that Retrohud also.

RetroHUD has always been my favorite. I really wanted something that reminded me of a the original Elite's HUD. However, none of the other huds really do that. Once I found the Retro HUD I was utterly sold. I LOVED it. Smiv's shipset first came to me when I was on my rather pitiful laptop. I couldn't run Griff's, and it just sort of grew on me. Even now that I CAN run Griff's, I just prefer the style and look of Smiv's. Its more... cartoony? for lack of a better term? I reminds me of Frontier, which is how I envision the Elite universe, and judging from the latest Elite Dangerous movie, DB has a similair idea. Griff's ships are pretty, but they just don't immerse me. Something about those old school shapes.... :dancer:

Do you mean a similair idea to Griff-like ships or Smivs-like ships? I like both sets. BTW did you try my Oldships2010.oxp?

DB I think has a similiar idea to Smiv's in regards to color at the very least. Griff's look kind of bland to me. There is such a thing as TOO realistic imho. Oh yeah! Love it. One of my essential OXP's. Really its the only ship OXP I use outside of the base ships. I run a game that is as close to the original Elite as I can stand while still having fun. I think I'm running like 6 OXP's right now. Most of those eye candy, along with your Old ships, npc shields, and random names. :)
