complete newbie- I don't know much...

I've been playing for a couple of hours now. I can't fugre out anything.I've done a couple of missions. I can navigate through asteroid fields and around station fields with a great deal of effort (many saves and reloadings).I fought (oh what?) maybe four times. The storyline mission seems to depend on it.Now, I'm loose and I don't know what to do. There are enemies flying around randomly. So far, everytime I engage one, I get blown apart almost instantly. I was able to work out a pass and strafe, keep the shields that are up toward your enemy combat system that seemed to work for those four fights. Why isn't it working anymore? I'm in the 'Observatory' system. I can see the gates to three other systems, and I think I could get there (by flying right past any red blips, these 'enemies' seem to ignore me if I ignore them.I haven't replaced any starting equipment, except the Buster, which, apparently, is a gun, a plasma cannon I believe. I think I have two gun ports that are class one.The manual leaves me a bunch of unaswered questions. Is there a guide for people like me?

What game are you talking about? Starpoint Gemini?If so, it takes a bit to get used to the combat system and you don't have to rush right into the story. You can hang back and pickup creates and do some local missions or kills some people for scrap. In no time you will have the credits needed to outfit your ship better.
