Neptune's Pride II: Triton

Has anyone played the new version of Neptune's Pride? [url]http://triton.ironhelmet.com[/url] I'm curious to hear reactions and opinions. The game seems geared towards diplomacy/alliances; and I personally love the simplified UI and game mechanics. Nevertheless, I wonder if they're in an uncomfortable middle-ground: too complex for your average casual gamer, but not deep enough for us hard-core empire builders. I haven't spent enough time on it yet and I'd love to hear opinions on it.

This does look pretty good, I have yet to play this and think it would be more fun on a tablet so I will have to wait until I get one to try this one. The video of the game play looks good...
