Have no clue how to download or run Pioneer, please help!
Hi All, First time on this forum, I came across Pioneer whilst looking for more recent Elite like games. I have tried quite a few of them, but nothing seems to capture the original depth of Elite. Pioneer does however look totally absorbing. Trouble is, I cannot even begin to fathom how to get it running. Presumably I need to download a source game and then install the latest patch? I have looked at the instructions on the Pioneer website but it's double dutch to me I am afraid. Is there an idiots guide to running the software? I have used computers since the BBC days, but never looked into them in any depth. I think I need a gentle push in the right direction! Any help would be gratefully appreciated - the hairs stood up on my neck when I saw the in-game footage on You Tube ... Cheers, Steven

Hi Steven and welcome,You can download Pioneer here http://sourceforge.net/projects/pioneerspacesim/files/alpha/If you running windows like me choose the file which ends in .7zthat's pioneer-alpha23.7zAfter you download it unzip the file using any unzipping software, I use 7zip (which the file was packed with hence the .7z extension). No need to install just place the file anywhere you like and when ready just click on Pioneer.exe to start the game.Good luck and let us know if you have any more questionsp.s. No need to install any patches, a new updated alpha version comes out every month, which will be available to download from the same link as above.

Thanks guys, got it going. Would never have managed it if it wasn't for the tip on how to extract files and what program to download. Just a pity i didn't discover this before the bank holiday weekend! BTW I am running Windows 7. Cheers AllSteven
