When you let go of your thruster, what happens?

I seem to remember I-war being fully newtonian. So you let go of the thruster and nothing happens <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Well, you stop accelerating... There was no time acceleration so there were other modes of travel IIRC.I-War 1 was so cool and so advanced for its time, I-War 2 was pretty cool too, but I never had that back in the day and only played it a few years ago.I-War also had perhaps the best intro ever <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> :

I think that depended on the flight mode selected. There was assisted and manual. but yes it was Newtonian based but I don't recall gravity having an effect but I could be wrong again.

The strong points in IW2 were the physics and the sense of massiveness. Although it was slightly empty. It was a mix of sandbox and linearity, the beggining was a large tutorial or first mission, but on the rails. In general it was a great game very unique, it worked.I recomend it. I have no idea why It is not so remembered as other examples. I guess developers should have chosen an even more sandbox/elite style of gameplay. But it is just a personal opinion.I never tried IW1 but it is said it is very good too.edit: And yes, the two models, One thruster assisted and one newtonian was a great idea, It is like the two modes on evochron sim.Greetings

If "flight assist" is off, nothing happens, if it is on the ship will automatizally decelerate to zero (absolute). A bit like Pioneer and set speed zero + manual thruster keys.I like the first one more, it is strictly mission based with some branching but they are the most inventive missions ever.

Yea, the I-War games were good, but they were not the only space sim (post FFE) to have physics. There was Terminus as well and that was a damn fine game. <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//nyam.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':nyam:' />http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminus_%28video_game%29

There are links all over this forum eran100, also check out the download area, its packed with goodies. A good place to start would be FFE3D. There is a whole bunch of stuff to be found in that file, check it out. http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/files/category/41-ffed3d/ Oolite is well worth a look http://www.oolite.org/about finally, Pioneer http://www.moddb.com/games/pioneer

And of course if you can live without the commerce or story kind of game, Orbiter is a hardcore space simulator, free and it is evolving for a lot of years. It borns as the hobby of a scientific and now is very popular. It is crude and only windows based. The learning is long and the quantity and quality of addons is huge.It has details like newtonian physics in the solar system, nonspherical gravity sources, radiation pressures, gravity gradient torques, and atmospheric wind effects. On vanilla it uses a very basic d3d7 engine but the images and graphics are very close to reality, other two graphic clients (d3d9 and d3d11) are now being tested, and an opengl client with procedural terrain generation was developed byArtlav, the guy behind spaceway project.Greetings.

Your spot on Gudadantza. Orbiter is as hard core as can be and all the better for it. Yes its extreme, but thank goodness for extreme game like this. Oh and what are you doing here Gudadantza ? I thought you would be in a dungeon someplace <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
