Dear programming beardie wizards...

Post by Biscuits »

I just wanted to say a big thank you to you guys. I used to have a fully rounded life. A girlfriend, a burgeoning social life, a kick ass band and a reasonable amount of good friends. However, now that I have discovered Pioneer I have none of these. Seriously though, I just wanted to say thank you for all the work you have put into this development. Pioneer has provided, and continues to provide me with so much enjoyment, and for free! Thank the lord for the beards. Beard peace to all.Best wishes,Mike. <img src='http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//hi.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hi:' />

Haha! For my humble little bit I thank you. I think this is a good place to share a story. I was checking out at a local grocery store when the clerk, making general clerk-type conversation asked me what I was planning for the evening. I tend to answer questions like that literally as a form of subtle sarcasm, so I told him I was going home to drink a beer and do some light programming. He asked me what kind so I told him about Pioneer. ( I tend to go on about it too much whenever I get the chance.) He replied, "I play that! I like games with some depth. I get bored with first-person shooters!" Small universe! It kind of blew me away. I usually get blank stares when I mention what I do for a hobby! We couldn't talk about it any more because there were other people waiting in line.

This will have the added effect of making all your band members Pioneer addicts too! <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//music.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':music:' />Friends!?! LOL.Laarman. As a tribute to the beards of Pioneer last weekend I grew my self a ZZ top. Small though it was it made me feel like one of the team. Brings a tear to my eye it does.Marcel, totally! I think that Pioneer can only really grow in popularity. Its great because it does not try to do everything. It does what it does with style, and best of all it just works as that dude that invented that thing said before he expired...Steve Jobs that's it. Steve jobs invented the beard.Geraldine. If I asked my current GF to play Pioneer and she liked it then she might want to come round and play it here. This means I would have to spend more time pretending to listen to her stories about....well, whatever she's goes on about when her face moves about. I think its talking, she might be eating. Whatever, she smells nice and she's bumpy and that's OK with me. More likely though is that she would laugh at me intensely probably wee'ing a little bit and punch me in the face. She appears to like doing that lately.I never thought of making any music for the game. I turn off the music (not that I don't like it, I do) its just that I replaced a load of the SFX files and I like listening to them! Maybe I'll dig out my ambient music writing soul though and see where that takes me.As for the social life. Well...I was only joking. I LOVE socialising but yeah completely, there are many a cool character frequenting this board so its a win win situation. Everybody is really friendly and you guys appear to be very patient with new people which I think is fantastic. People really start to feel part of a community when they are met with patience and support. I should imagine that that kind of attitude gets people on board. Finally, Geradine. Do we really need a new Elite now??Best wishes to all,Mike.

This is true - we have several ladies of the spacelanes on the Oolite forum. However, it was not so with my ex - she hated all computer games - it was just one of the 'issues' between us, but led to me not playing computer games for some years... hey-ho!

me? <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//suicide.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':suicide:' />really sometimes i would like to enter some pub and meet some of you, writing isn't the same as talking eye to eye.if i wouldn't be as damned poor as i'm now, i would do that very often...i have yet no friends (except you) who play pioneer or who are at all interested as much as i'm in computergames.besides i have anyway not many friends to visit.well maybe that changes soon, slowly i got some life in my facebook and i hope to meet some friends of the past.'cause a lot have parted, family, career, whatever, but even a lot have faced the same fate as me, being divorced, became victims of unemployment and such nasty things.---beard is growing... (again)is this a fact, computer games make social incompetent?no! i didn't think so.it's just that many don't understand this geekery, if they aren't involved themself into it.and so they look at you kinda strange,as if we're aliens from mars.they utter: "if you wouldn't be a "junkie", perhaps you would find friends".what do they know how many friends we have, even if they don't live next door.which is otherwise great to know, "i have friends all around the globe" - "...you got that to?"but it's hard sometimes, we are still animals and need contact, or i have to say i need contact, i love contact, contact?
