What is the best space simulation/exploration game for mac?

Looking for the cadillac of simulations. I am new to the genre, but want to delve in with both feet.

Think a couple of the X games available on the Mac, they look pretty but are more of an economic simulation than anything else.

You can play the game any way that you like; Fight or Trade as much as you like.Both X3TC and X3AP are available on the Mac. I recently helped a player to modify his game on the Mac, so that is possible, as well.Unfortunately, space sims have been pretty stale for too many years. X3 is the best of what is left in the industry. What else is out there (released)... on any platform?
