Alien: Colonial Marines - Some noob question

As I am a huge fan of the Alien franchise (aside from AvP: Requiem which I thought rather terrible), I thought I might as well give the games a shot (no pun intended) and bought Alien: Colonial Marines for PS3 last x-mas. Now, I've never been into FPS games and I think I only played a few demos.. one of the dead space series and in the early 00's one of the star wars games and maybe a handful of other demos, but never really got into it. However, the Alien game I really like, but find myself incapable to even withstand the first fight without major health loss followed by immediate death at the onslaught that follows. So as you can see, I'm a complete noob. So I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips and tricks as to how to stay alive for more than 5mins. x']It seems I can't get used to the aiming and my focus' all over the place. ._." Am I just too noobish or are the controls indeed not as good as in some other games and I'm not actually all that rubbish as I seem? Thanks for the info in advance! x']

I have been waiting to see this on a Steam sale to get this because I am like you and I like the alien series and would least like to try this one out. But from some bad reviews when it first came out I didn't buy and was going to wait until it hit the bargain bid  But being liking FPS games, was going to ask... what control scheme you using? (ie: Mouse/Keyboard or gamepad) and have tweaked the sensitivity settings on your devices?

I have seen the PC version on sale for a tenner but still felt it was not worth getting although I did read some where that a number of patches had been released for it.
