Ring Runner - Flight of the Sages (Inspired by Silent Death Online and Subspace)
Five years in the making, Ring Runner’s alpha demo for PC is here, and it’s free!

Soundtrack Samples
Ring Runner combines the fluid, fast-paced action of a space-shooter with the rich customization and story of an RPG.
Key Features:
Over 300 Unique Abilities - no abilities are redundant or made obsolete by better versions
65 Fully Customizable Ships - five archetypes, with many hybrids to choose from
20-Plus-Hour Story-Driven Campaign - universe based on a full-length Sci Fi novel
At least 3 Online Multiplayer Modes - Wave Survival, Base Battle, and Deathmatch
Procedural AI - billions of possible enemies
Procedural Backgrounds - all of the backgrounds you see are procedurally generated, billions of possibilities.
Classic Arcade Inspired Mini-games - earn Sage abilities by conquering challenges in The Subrostrum
Local Coop - "Duo" ships allow a friend to act as a copilot, usable in multiplayer modes, second half of campaign, and some challenges
Original Soundtrack - over 14 tracks of music and hundreds of sound effects
Hundreds of Hours of Game Play - with 300+ abilities and 65 customizable hulls, the options are endless; use them in PVE or PVP
Our inspiration for this game began with Mythic Entertainment's Silent Death Online; some of you may remember it from the late 90s! Like many other online games at the time, SDO was pay-by-the-hour. In just one sweet month, my brother and I managed to rack up a thousand dollar credit card bill, and that was the end of it. We've wanted to make a game like it ever since! Ring Runner has drawn comparissons to Subspace and MoBA games like DotA or League of Legends. We've also heard it compared to a Super Smash Bros in space. But in the end, I think we've created a pretty unique project, and we welcome your opinions. Visit our website and try our free demo. It offers over 2 hours of game play. Enjoy!

We're bringing up a new server. Reached our transfer limits on Dropbox! The game is fully 3D, but the field of play is locked to a 2-D plane. Actually a mix between borderlands and torchlight is pretty accurate! <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//nyam.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':nyam:' />

RE: Ring Runner - Flight of the Sages (Inspired by Silent Death Online and Subspace)
Thank you, got it from the mediafire link on your sitejust a very quick feedback after a crash and some succesful levels:in configuration screen - after clicking one of the subsettings like video / audio ... - cant move the mouse to the other subsettings like audio and also could not move to the close area - at least the ESCape key worked and the changed settings looked like they were not lost.similar issue with the Help section cant go back with mouse - have to use ESCthe game crashes if you click in options-audio-killsound !(ya weird me - i always check all options and settings before starting)also the mouse "trail" is quit annoying - option to disable it would be nice. Also played up to level 4 space trash at the arch sage difficulty (iexpected to die several times - i was never near death except that scripted part - and this with an inconvenient (at least for me) console-style control scheme) is it possible to have the mouse be responsible for setting the direction and your ship is rotating to the direction were your mouse cursor points ?Is there an open-world / sandbox mode (like spacerangers2 or freelancer after the story) planned or is it just one level after another in the single player game ?Game looks very nice and plays smooth (and i say that although i dont like the directional controls!)

Thanks for the feedback. We'll look into that killsound crash right away! Could you tell me a little more about your computer? What sort of system are you running it on?We've played with some options for the mouse to control your aim, and eventually we might implement a control scheme like that. However, since all Archetype abilities require you to "flick" in a direction to activate, you'd need to have a modifier button that you'd hold down to tell the game that your next mouse move is intended to control the archetype ability (like a barrel roll) rather than the aim of the ship. We're still working on how to do something like this, but it's very likely that the end version will have this option. Thanks for playing, and if you have any more feedback, feel free to leave it on our forums too! Oh, and to answer your "open-world" question: after the first half of the game, the univers map opens up. You will soon have the option to choose your path throughout the universe. Once the story-driven campaign is complete, you'll unlock several end game modes (multi/local coop/single) and challenges, which can be played in any order and as many times as you'd like. Many of these missions feature procedurally generated content (environment, background, and AI), meaning that they'll offer a different challenge each time.

Thank you for your answer and consideration !my system consist of an intel i7 950@3.07ghz , 12GB ram, radeon 6800 series (dont remember which one - but i guess on the higher end) 1gb video ram, ssdsrunning win7homepremium-64bitthanks for the invitation but i am already at limits to remember loginssince you mentioned several game modes - is it possible to play a game without any fancy rpg-like abilities ?That means that any weapon or "special effect" has to be installed in a shipslot to be usable.ie. "classic mode" <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_biggrin.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Nice computer! <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//nyam.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':nyam:' /> hehe. Do you have any windows media playlists? It may be that there is a symbol in the name that is not currently supported by the game's UI. We'll look into this possibility. That's precisely how all ships work. At the beginning, you're ship is auto-equipped, but once you complete the initial part of the demo, you gain access to modes where you can fully customize your ship. Every prospective ability is bound to a piece of gear. Each of the 65 hulls are unique templates, which offer different possibilities for customization. You won't have anything that you didn't choose to equip yourself.

No media playlists here - but then i dont have used windows media player.Nice to hear that it all depends on shiploadout.finally managed to get killed in trash heap - in a fair 4 vs me fightmaybe iam old but in my days "Fire (main) weapon" was shortened to "Fire" and not "Use Ability-X"scrolled the controls several times up and down - and only identified it by the "LMB" entryright now i feel the default mousecontrol+keyboard is not very playable.

Wow! You're a natural born Sage! <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//cool.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' />It's designed to rebind the controls any way you'd like. I'm like you though: I always rebind my keys in every computer game I've ever played. The one big thing we've left to do is create a scheme that will allow for mouse aiming, but other than that I think we've made the controls as flexible as we can. If you get a chance, I'd recommend trying it with a gamepad. A lot of people prefer it, but not everyone has a compatible one.I'm hoping that we'll be able to figure out a way to use mouse aiming while still allowing for high-fidelity control of archetype abilities before launch!

Like Dari I had a hard time getting to grips with the Mouse Keyboard combo, at one point I was told to press D2,may be an idea to put D+2 there going to have a look for my joypad as I get the feeling the game more suited to a twin stick, like the asteroids feels to the game. Not had any problems running it and got upto the arena level and it's good to read the game becomes more sandbox. There some good witty written banter between youself and your head thing

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it. I would recommend using a gamepad if you have one that supports XInput -- personally I prefer it, but some people who've used the mouse/keyboard combo for a while tend to really like it. Right now, we're working on a mouse-aim control scheme. Since archetype skills require a direction to activate, what we're doing is allowing you to bind a "modifier button" to instruct the game when mouse movement is controling aim and when it's activating an archetype ability. It will require refinement before it's ready though! When did you get asked to press D2? <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//hunter.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hunter:' />

It was early on around about mission 3 or 4.Been having a tough time with the arena missions they seem to just go on and on.Had to change the game setting to easy to get past them but now stuck on the boomerang one.

Ah yes. We fixed the button reference glitch. The boomerang one is just for training. All you have to do is hit the trash pieces and then Mugin with it a few times so you can get the hang of the controls.

We've very nearly got the mouse aim scheme working. It works best if you're using a 5-button mouse and bind the modifier to mouse 4. I'm really enjoying it so far. It's like getting to learn to play the game again. <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Hey PINBACK, we've got the mouse aim mode working now. It's in the new demo (version 0.8.0.0) if you wanna check it out. You'll have to uninstal the current version, but it'll retain your saved info, so you can continue where you left off.http://ringrunner.net/demo.html me what you think about it.
RE: Ring Runner - Flight of the Sages (Inspired by Silent Death Online and Subspace)
Will do but I wont be able to do it till the weekend, hopefully someone else will jump in and give you some feedback about it.
