An exciting new future featuring the continuation of the Star Wars movie saga was announced on October 30, as the Walt Disney Company enters an agreement to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. from George Lucas. Backed by the global reach and brand stewardship strengths of Disney, the future of Star Wars is now under the direction of acclaimed film producer and studio executive Kathleen Kennedy, co-chairman of Lucasfilm. Kennedy and Disney plan a slate of new Star Wars feature films, beginning with the long-awaited Star Wars: Episode VII, targeted for release in 2015, followed by Episodes VIII and IX. Additional feature films are expected to continue the saga and grow the franchise well into the future.
Thought the Disney film group were having financial problems after that disaster of John Carter film.

And Jar-Jar Binks Strikes back ... <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//suicide.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':suicide:' />http://www.chefelf.com/starwars/ep1_1-10.php
RE: New Star Wars
Yeah I heard that John Carter was a bit of a financial flop. I listened to a little bit of the press conference and it sound like Disney is issuing more stock to help pay for their purchase. Some are even saying 4billion was a bargain price...but I don't exactly agree with that.I'd like to see another xwing vs tie fighter or x-wing alliance sequel. But, I'm not too confident that Lucasarts will be releasing any major games after 1313. During the press conference it was mentioned that Disney would like to focus more on social and mobile games and no plans for console games.
RE: New Star Wars
I think (although I do hope that I am wrong) that this is the end of the franchise as we knew it. It started to go down hill after Empire Strikes Back (the last great SW movie). As for the gaming side of things, goodness knows, maybe cute and furry X-Wings and TiE Fighters? Sad, sad, sad <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_mad.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':girlmad:' />
RE: New Star Wars
I don't see any problem with this. Since the latest 3 SW movies it is not like the holy grail was now sold to Disney. The SW franchise offers a huge background for all sorts of stories but I guess the best stories come from the fans. Especially with the Clone Wars animation series I don't see much difference to what I would expect from Disney.I doubt it will hurt the IP/background of Star Wars that now the money comes from Disney, even G. Lucas will still be involved in making the next 3 episodes. And I am not sure if this is a good thing. So, at the end of the day I doubt we will see any difference if now G. Lucas or Disney are the owners of Star Wars.
RE: New Star Wars
I saw this the other day and Pinback beat me to posting it. But I think if done right Disney would have gotten the Star Wars IP for cheap if the actually make these next three movies correctly and then put out some good games to support them and in owning the IP they make money off it all, toys, books, games, apps, movies, DVD/BD and whatever else they can think of. In about 10-20yrs they will re-coop the cost of this and they have these rights until they want to sell them to someone. All I want is for Disney to not milk the SW fans and just come out with some good stuff, as to whether George Lucas should be involved with the movies....? Hmmmm, I would have to say no after the Ep1,2,3 didn't meet my expectations. Crap just watching some old trailers to SWTOR and you think to yourself, why can't SW movies be like this <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> So I think there could be some great creative directors out there that could kick start this franchise again and make it a huge win for Disney. But it really comes back to there direction and whether they are going to kiddie with the series, personally it should get a bi more gritty.Only time will tell...

RE: New Star Wars
I sure hope not Cody, I think if they were smart they wouldn't make episode 7,8,9 and go in a different direction and start making some movies about KOTOR (knights of the old republic), I think that would be some great movies because the stories are great.
RE: New Star Wars
Lucas has done alright out of it 4 billion in cash and shares

And so it begins http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/02/06/star-wars-spin-offs-young-han-solo-movie-boba-fett/
RE: New Star Wars
<chortles> Yeah... I saw that and had to laugh. On a more sober note, this guy died the other day - he was tops at his job!
RE: New Star Wars
Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm announced today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that Star Wars: Episode VII will hit theaters in the summer of 2015 and that every summer after that will offer a "Star Wars" film, alternating with one of the standalone films.
RE: New Star Wars
Endless sequels, and will they be fighting the remains of the Empire or did it just collapse when Vader and the emperor bought the farm at the end of Jedi.?
RE: New Star Wars
Disney has been going on about the StarWars film and I was just wondering about the other big franchise "Indiana Jones" looks like 50/50 according to Den of Geek http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/indiana-jones/24301/indiana-jones-5-still-on-the-cards
RE: New Star Wars
Harrison Ford is in his 70's and I don't think this will happen because by the time it gets made he would be 73-75yrs old not really an 'action star' anymore, I think we will be lucky to see him in another SW film.
RE: New Star Wars
Good point about his age, should recast it and set them back in the 1930s if they were to make any more films.
RE: New Star Wars
I see in the news that they have started filming episode 7 let hope it better than the last lost
