Hello from Gamma Quadrant

Post by Starbuck »

Hi i'm Starbuck I do graphics, I dabble with playing FFE D3D.I logged in here to get the high res texture pack so I'll try and get that in a minuteand perhaps in the future I can do some higher resolution textures for planets / land or whatever.I play Oolite a fair bit but i know FFE is technically better as you can descend to planets etc. I hope someone can get those in game videos working (only sound works at present) that'd be cool (at least they're in colour...hehe d;). I did dabble with making some custom fonts that were non Times Roman i.e. some cool onesand i'm reasonably confident i can make them work if anyone is interested - i had a go with replacing several letters and they worked ok. I'm thinking a battlestar galactica style font (split lettering) would be great and would give it a much more modern feel, or something more alien. If someone can show me or tell me which texture numbers relate to what, and what sizes, format etc etc I'd be happy to help to improve the overall resolution & look for ground and wall textures etc. If someone could do a really thorough video and stick it on youtube for all the common set up issues for FFED3D e.g. visual styles and keys to do the basics of the game I'm sure it'd have a much bigger fan base, and perhaps even someone upload a 'Complete' version in say 1024x768 with all customisations, fixes, instructions to change config file to your highest resolution etc etc so people can just download it and get into it as it's pretty inaccessible for most people which is a real pity i think; and include that Youtube introductoy video with it too all in a big zip of say half a Gigabyte that'd be awesome. Anyway, that's my thoughts, nice to meet you all! Cheers, SB

Welcome to the forums Starbuck. Some one on the Frontier forum has been playing around with the FFED 3D code and fixing some of the bugs ect, don't think they ever uploaded it anywhere so yo might have to PM them to find out how to get it.

If you do find the updated code do let us know and we will get it in the download area, and feel free to upload your mods to the area when you get them done. Welcome to SSC and glad to see more people not being lurkers and actually joining in on the fun.

Hi Cody & DarkOne, Thanks both, I've been meaning to get on this for a while now so I will be happy to upload some mods/updated code once I've found out some more and tested with different sizes to see what's possible/playable. A higher texture resolution would be so much more fun - the work that was already trialled looked Grrrrreat! So I'm hopeful this will turn out well. Stay tuned, but set your oxygen to "Economy" just in case! :pleasantry: Cheers, SB

Hey! Welcome to the forums. Are you an artist because I would really want someone to help me with my game! If you like, I can use your fonts for my game and see how cool is it. Anyways, WELCOME!
