Battle For Elysium released for Google Play

Post by JohnE »

Hi All, I'm an Indie developer, having worked on a sci-fi Android/iOS game for the last year, and just completed. Please check out the app on Google Play, and let me know what you think (iOS version is undergoing Review by Apple): (Free Version)https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.battleforelysium.johne.b4e_free&hl=en It's a space-based RTS, with unique features focusing on combined Tactics, Strategy and Action gameplay. I believe the game should appeal to alot of "old-school" fans of (MOO, SoaSE, Homeworld, Space Empires 3-5, etc.) , as well as the younger "new-school" gamers seeking a sci-fi based game with intense action, but grounded in tactical and strategic game-play. (Note: please keep in mind, I am NOT comparing my game to MOO, SoaSE, etc. - just saying they are my influences; my intended scope is a more “manageable” gameplay of 30-45 minute sessions on a mobile/tablet device). If you enjoy the game, please consider kindly putting a positive review on Google Play, and telling your friends. And, Oh..., I am currently working on making this into Multiplayer (1vs1) and would like to add some more community-favored features - such as possibly stats for officers (RPG elements) and other new techs/skills/features that would enhance the game experience, etc. Also, if you would just like to add new "lore" to the B4E universe, I would very much appreciate any contributions - I would like develop more titles, including TBS games in this universe and can't do it without support from communities such as this. I have a forum, listed at the bottom of the Description info on the link, for people to visit. Thanks All, John EastmanIndie Developer

Hey mate. Just had a couple of attempts at playing the game but seems like it doesn't work on my phone, so too bad :( Btw this is most likely my phone's fault cause many new games don't run on it for various reasons (phone's low memory most likely being one).Anyway, as per your request, feel free to use my 3d models for your future projects if they fit your design style. Most of older ones are quite low poly so they should work well:http://www.solcommand.com/

When I look at that the first thing that comes to mind is Gratuitous Space Battles, which is a pretty boring game. However what makes it boring is the fact you can't control the action at all, so I'm really looking forward to trying this one (on iPad, hopefully there will be a demo).

Thanks SolCommand for taking time out to try the game. Yes, the game does take up some memory - because of the many graphics layers (space decors, spaceships, particle FX, etc.). I believe anywhere from 60mb - 85mb - when I ran under debug), and so this is most likely the issue. Even, I cannot run on my iPad Gen1 without it "hitting" memory limit and crashing after playing awhile. Also, thanks for the generous offer on your fine 3D models! I'll revisit them once I begin work on new project. Regards, John E.

FStyle, yes the game does have a very similar "look" as Gratuitous Space Battle, but that is where the similarity ENDS. B4E is designed to be very "hands-on" as far as Player interactions to continually (but not in a hectic way) order fleets, change formations and set different movement / combat orders, in "real-time". The game was designed specifically for the AI to "respond" to the player's (Commander) order, and automatically engage targets within their tactical formations, so there is not a lot of "point and click" on individual ships. As a matter of fact, you as Commander only need to give orders to your FOUR Escort Ships, and the rest of the combat ships will perform their intended action based on formation, stance, and attack profile. Even though I enjoy traditional RTS games, I'm getting a bit "older" and don't enjoy "frantically" assigning orders to dozens of units every minute, in order to "strategically" beat my opponent. I wanted to develop a game that had strategy, "real-time", and tactics but didn't require lots of button "mashing". Hopefully, I achieved that with B4E. Look forward to your trying B4E, and providing feedback in near-future... Regards, John E.
