Starpoint Gemini Warlords

This area is to discuss FPS (First Person Shooters), Strategy and Tactical based games that don't always involve 3D space combat (ex: Fallout, Wasteland, Mass Effect, X-Com, Deus Ex, Halo, ect...)

Starpoint Gemini Warlords

Post by Pinback »

LGM announced the game awhile ago and will be it on Steams early access http://store.steampowered.com/app/419480/[/url] in April. KEY FEATURESHeadquarters. Construct and upgrade your own personal space station; a massive structure that enables you to conduct research, build ships, assemble autonomous fleets and much more. Conquer Territory. Gradually expand your reign over unclaimed territory, by battling minor factions, or conquer the entire Gemini sector, by facing off against familiar strong Gemini foes, familiar from the previous Starpoint Gemini titles. Reinforce conquered regions to defend themselves. Conduct Research on simple weapon enhancements, obtain the expertise to construct a titan class behemoth, or boost the effectiveness of your non-combat fleets. Equipment, ship systems, enhancements and ships can still be bought, but he best ‘stuff’ can only be researched, constructed and improved in your HQ. Construction and research demand the allocation of resources. Gather them by conducting missions for other factions, trade or purchase resources, or conquer regions providing a steady flow of resources, and bonuses. A far larger game world will allow more distinction between ship sizes, pockets of empty space to travel through and your own giant space HQ where ships can be ‘parked’. Skill classes, attributed skills and perk progression will be revamped and rebalanced, as will levelling-up, the reputation system and diplomacy. Storyline vs Free-roam: The campaign storyline will be blended in with the more generic conquer quests. Free-roam mode strips all main storyline missions, but leaves side quests and generic freelance missions intact. A full branching dialogue scheme, the industry standard in modern RPGs. Technical additions include: x64 system only, projection mapping, deferred shading, physically based rendering and realistic physics.

This looks intersting. Can't say I was overly impressed with Starpoint Gemini 2, but it was a nice game, and the developer demonstrated that they have potential. Dare we imagine this as the new X?

Not really. I'd say SG2 is more arcadey than X series. But it should be good nonetheless.

Video up.  And the game should be hitting early access on the 14 of April. Too much of a 4X/RTS style of game for me.

Everything he's saying sounds nice, but that wasn't much of a "gameplay" video. For me, any 4X elements are extremely welcome. The main thing I'd like to see improvement in was not mentioned here, however. The combat in SG2 was really quite bad compared to the few other games with similar combat (such as Star Trek Online).

I have always liked LGM going out of their way to get player feedback and then figure out how best to get that feedback in the game. I think this direction really builds a nice following and gamers that will be dedicated into buying anything they make. If they build off of SPG2 success with mods and have some great modding mechanics in Warlords I think they will have another success on their hands because the story and content in SP2 was solid and they now have a steady base to build other games off of this lore.

Seems Im too green to post any links for you guys. Nonetheless you can search for:Starpoint Gemini Operationdx1 - a short, to the point preview of one of our more recent builds. Havent come across any preview of the latest build yet april 1st but it gives you a good idea where we are going with the game.
