Sound like something from the Lord of the ring, in fact I think their is a 8 or 16 bit game called that. Anyhow came across this YouTube vid of the game and it looks like a variation on star raiders, came out in 1989 on the Spectrum, Amstrad, C64 and Atari ST, looks like the Amiga version was canned. if you want to have a go yourself then you can track down the Spectrum version here.
