Yea, Arena is what used to be Elite's "CQC" mode. It looks like its becoming popular to segment out the mutiplayer parts of a game for sale separately; Humble Bundle is currently offering a similar thing (the multiplayer pvp only) for one of the Call of Duty games. CQC/Arena is fun. I'd recommend a good joystick or at least an XBox Pad to play it. The biggest problem with Arena is that its fighting against Elite for your play time; when I have time to play Elite, I play Elite! Though its a good way to test your combat skills against players without risking your "heavy investment" open world ship. This is, in essence, exactly what "Arena Commander" is in the current Star Citizen setup. Do I recommend it? Well, if you don't have Elite: Dangerous then its definitely worth the click to add it to your Steam library for free.
