Solo-ed for a few tens of hours years ago (so the experience might not be relevant anymore) and I remember liking a lot the implementation of weapons effectiveness vs range. So one had to optimize the ship's loadout and constantly maneuver to remain at optimal distance from the target(s). To me it felt much more tactical than dogfight-based games...
