The Allman Brothers track reminded me a bit of Santana.
This song was broadcast on the Radio One Friday Rock Show in 1982. I taped it at the time and still have the recording (assuming the tape hasn't disintegrated)

Nice Cody.

One of John Peel's favourites, was that Roy Harper song. Having once played cricket, it's one of my favourites too!
Talking of the Allman Brothers Band, how about some classy dobro playing...

At last, a missing album is restored to my collection (remastered too). Currently playing chez Cody...

Barry Melton's guitar work is superb! He's still going too, and still playing a Gibson SG Custom.

I have a vague memory of John Peel telling a story that someone suggested the Roy Harper song would be a good track to play as a tribute if John Peel died - Peely didn't like this as he was a big football fan and had little interest in cricket.
I have a Gibson SG but it's not a fancy one - it's called a Firebrand and was designed to be as inexpensive as possible - it was built in Nashville in 1980 and is still working fine, never been repaired or upgraded.

It's possible that you mis-remember, methinks (or Peel was playing mind games). I believe Andy Kershaw ended his Peel tribute programme on BBC Radio 3 with it. Harper uses cricket as a metaphor for death in that song, which only adds to its depth.

Very possible as it would have been some time around the late 80's - although I am now thinking that it was John Walters (Peel's producer?) that he said made the suggestion - I can still almost hear Peel's voice saying he wasn't keen on cricket (he was a big Liverpool FC fan).
