StarField
RE: StarField
The game dose seem to have got a lot of hate from players, but I wonder if it has more to do with the
clunky interface, endless loading screens and rather slow burn game play where you are not lead around the game world.
So far in my 12 hours of play I have only explored two systems but have enjoyed running around and seeing what can be done.
Space combat is a bit on the basic side but has been fun none the less, one thing of note about it, is that their is no radar
but rather a central hud with some arrows pointing off screen to targets with the current target has a blue dot above it.
The whole thing looks like it was made in unity, rather than coming from a game with a reported budget of over $300 million
Also something of note is that the game is missing a trading system, so no buying low selling high, although their are transporting goods missions
if you can figure out how to upgrade the ships cargo hold.
I found that buying the buggy is a must as it makes getting around the planet a lot easier, just don't try using it the city's.
Going to keep going and see if I can work out how the ship building/ upgrades work.

RE: StarField
I have some vacation time coming at xmas, was hoping to spend this time playing a game a little.... was debating playing this or Star Citizen, I don't know about either them I thought about letting bake more before diving in. I have Rebel Galaxy Outlaw I need to finish
But SF should be a great game if Bethesda sticks to their original plan of working on it for 5-10yrs in that time they can definitely iron out the quirks and improve mechanics in the game and truly make it an 'explorers' experience. That's why I been waiting to SF and SC for so long been waiting for them to get it to where I will truly spend hundreds of hours in.
If they create a new DLC or expansion I hope the bulk of it is really flushing out the immersion, like you mentioned.... why does this space game not have a trading system... I didn't know that but woah almost every space game has this in some fashion

RE: StarField
Strange not having an trading goods system in the game, their are course plenty of trader you can sell your stolen items to or buy from but no economics. My guess would be that they did not want player making too much money in the early game.
Think I may have figured out the ship upgrading, seem you can do some basic upgrades but to do any more you need to invest skill points into the ship building perk. Also I found out from a youtube vid that said you should do the first Vanguard mission as it open up some more options in the ship builder.
Think I may be getting hang of the interface after about 20 hours of play. but the more I play the game, the more depth the game has, but it dose not tell you anything beyond the basic of playing the game and some times it feels like I'm playing a game from about 20 years ago.

RE: StarField
Did the first Vanguard mission which is an Aliens take but did not get access to all the ship bits, so I guess I need to do something else.
A lot of the video I have watched seem to be out of date as some of them are talking about exploits which have now been patched out, also noticed my frame rate drop down to the low 40 in some of the more busy arears.
Wish their was a marker for which guns you are carrying when buying ammo as their is lot of different types of ammo.
Been over to the Freestar collective planets which has been based on the firefly TV series. ????

RE: StarField
75 hours in and I'm loving the game, not by any means perfect as the space part feels like you flying between cubes but not bad.
Finally got to grip with the ship builder as well and it a pretty good system once you get used to it.

RE: StarField
100 hours in, 28 system visited, 44 planets landed on and 7 ship acquired.
Also got my first space magic spell but I'm starting to feel the burn out and I think it because I have a feeling I have seen everything which is strange given their is a lot of content, but given the size of the game their not.

RE: StarField
Companion, this game must have the most annoying companions ever, all they do is nag, nag and nag you and even if you do their missions they still nag you after. Going to start using the robot although I have to say they have been useful on a few missions as long as you give them a good weapon to use, but don't give them grenades.
Old Tod boy said one of the influences on the game was Traveller and it shows as I do feel like I'm playing Traveller.

RE: StarField
One feature of the game which I have just realised is that the terrain of a planet will change depending on where you land alone with the animals you can find. Something which I not see in any other game as they tend to be the one type of planet like an ice or desert planet.
RE: StarField
I have not gotten this game yet. Was waiting for the usual stability patches, mod scene to become populated and maybe a GOG release.
RE: StarField
They are also going to release another expansion, I got this last one for free because of the game edition I bought. But I will still wait to play this game until its a solid experience and I would like to see more useful mods (hopefully). I see a lot of promise to this game, Bethesda just needs to keep pushing enhancements (like CDPR does with Cyberpunk). And OMG listen to the people that buy your games, give them what they want and they will praise you and give you good videos on YT
RE: StarField
In a 120 hours of play so far I have had only two CDT and a couple of black screens which were cleared by fast travelling to another system and I have not noticed any ground breaking bugs so far.
I believe their is another DLC coming this year, maybe called starborn also their a rumour of some game changing code update as well, hope it cut down on the loading screens if it turn up.
Just did the first mission of the crimson fleet story line, very fun mission but have gone off to do a bit of exploring and noticed that I'm no longer attacked by pirates. which means if I take a bounty mission to kill a pirate ship or pirate and I can get right up to them , then blast them out of the stars.

RE: StarField
Look like I was wrong as I have just found out that I have a bounty of 46650 credits
but as long as I'm doing the missions I'm safe.
RE: StarField
My chickens have come home to roost as I just finished the second mission for the pirates and docked at the key, where I was confronted by a pirate and told to pay or else.
In the resulting I fire fight I kill em all but ended up having to reload a save game and pay the bounty as I do not want to have to fight them every time I do mission for them.
Love that ship builder it is an awesome bit of software and although it dose have some limitations, it's amazing what can be done with it.

RE: StarField
Building a new ship in the ship builder and have run out of credits, look like I will have to do a bit grand theft starship.
RE: StarField
I just found out that Vasco the robot in the game has a vocabulary of over a thousands names which means that he is able to say your characters name. As in if you called you character Kirk, he would address you as captain Kirk in the game and he can also use swear words.
RE: StarField
Over 150 hours into the game and I decided to do some more of the main mission, missions and I was going to say they are a bit on the boring side, looking for artefacts in caves. but I did a couple of them and one was really good and then the spaceborn attacked and one of the companions died.
Thing are looking up just a pity they did not take more of the whingers and I not found much use for the space magic as yet.

RE: StarField
so I'm on Mars looking to see if they had put any of the geological features in when a ship lands nearby, so I bounce over to it and run around the merc that go off and then board it.
The ship then takes off, so I get the bridge and kill the rest of the crew and I'm in space. WTF no loading screen.

RE: StarField
200+ hours in and I think I maybe getting towards the end game, but I'm going to delay going to the new game+ till I get the Dlc if it's in the next Steam sale
Just realised that I can increase the vender credit in the game setting instead of waiting 48 hours in game for them to reset, gives them more credit so I can sell more to fund my ship building habit.

RE: StarField
Should be a steam sale today will be checking to see if the DLC is in it.
Also been watching some vids about mods and it seems their are a few thousand of them, will have to start making a list of which ones to download.

RE: StarField
Picked up the DLC for the game and got the upgraded version which gives you the soundtrack and artbook as well as 1000 credits for mods.
No idea why the DLC gets so much hate as I have been enjoying it as it reminds me of Dune, also added some free mods into the game for shipbuilding but since I have been using the mods I have noticed that the frame rate has tanked a bit when out doors.
