During this time I also even have a small prototype of tradewars running via web browser using node.js... so I been playing around mainly (also converted my PC over to Linux only now too). I hope by the end of July I might have something ready for a Cosmic Trader play test and get recommendations and thoughts on functionality from everyone.
Right now working on planet stuff (mining, invading, destroying, claiming, colonization). I need to do a little more work on combat, want to introduce different weapons and have the ships computer systems/scanners really assist or not assist you in your fight. I have basic hacking and stealing from ports, navigational hazards, the npc they actually progress while your playing they will battle each other... so the mechanics are growing
I never really thought about what really goes into a game until now.... wow so many thoughts and then thinking how to best implement something so it makes sense or its comical etc... I been having fun with it. I just got done with the 'power ranking' system, its simplistic but I will know more if its working right if I play a while to see if the factions grow in power or individual npc's grow as well. I have yet to introduce a exp/alignment system its on the TO DO list. Right now its the basics I am concentrating on the navigation/movement, port trading, combat and planet actions. Once I know those are working well I will start fine tuning and adding small pieces.
But its a start, I haven't done this all on my own I have had AI assist me a lot too.
