Star Wolves 3 Civil War

Post by sscadmin »

Well 1C Publishing is going to release another game in the Star Wolves series. Don't remember if the previous two were ported to english but I thought SW3CW was going to be but we'll see. Supposed released date for the game is Q4 '09 so anytime now. The back drops look a little like EVE Online but the game play looks to be decent. Be nice to play a demo of this one. Here is the website: http://www.1cpublishing.eu/game/star-wolves-3-civil-war/overviewHere is an overview of the game:Large-scale battles have become a vestige of the past, depleting resources of conflicting parties. Settled space, where welfare and order had reigned, has become a cemetery for dead ships which is flooded with pirates and adventurists. Complete impunity, black market flourishing where gun and tech trade is on the move, arbitrariness and anarchy – the Galaxy has become a real dangerous place. Events in the Universe and its habitant’s destiny are completely up to player’s choice and tactical decisions. Star Wolves 3: Civil War is a sequel to the popular real time strategy with RPG elements. Original large-scale scenario, closely tied with the first part of intergalactic epic helps the player influence the ongoing events and foreordain one of many endings. Free roam, free mission selection, free team forming – the world of Star Wolves waits for its heroes.Features:* Huge world: 110 highly detailed star systems in different parts of the Galaxy.* Non-linear story: several endings and additional quests create a complete game universe.* New characters and skills: form up a team of your dream; teach your companions new skills.* New participant in the intergalactic conflict: the Space Fleet of a New Empire, equipped with its own spaceships.* A number of new base ships and fighters with unique specifications and original weapon types and equipment.Trailer: Screenshots:

That's reassuring thanks for the confirmations Pinback and Capt. This looks really well done and can't wait to play a demo (if there is one). I was on 1C's forums and there really isn't much on this release for info. I wouldn't mind getting more background on the game mechanics and storyline.

Not really reassuring, both Star Wolves 1 and 2 were god awful, decent concepts, but they were absolutely RIDDLED with bugs, with little to no support from the devs, so I'm not getting my hopes up for the third game. The previous two also had very mediocre storylines filled with cliches and awful dialog/voiceacting.

I know 1C doesn't put out great games in general (I do like Kings Bounty) and voice acting in The Tomorrow War is AWFUL.... I would hope they have taken all feedback and bugs from 1&2 and make 3 just a bit better. I know I'm an optimist :)

The offer on steam (25€ pre-order and free Star Wolves 1 and 2) is tempting me to buy it :D

Star Wolves 1 and 2(Both have been out in English long before they were put on Steam) are buggy as hell, Star Wolves 3 I cannot say, don't own it, and don't plan on buying it given how incredibly buggy and poorly translated SW1 and 2 were.

This seems to be something of a theme regarding games from the 1C stable. The Tomorrow War was awful on both counts.

OK, had a quick play through on some of the early missions. I am using the Steam version of the game. 1C have (wisely in my view) ditched dodgy voice overs. The only voices you hear are those in the intro, which is fine. Instead, all communication comes via text. It would have been nice to get more feedback (like for example, in Homeworld) on what is actually happening during a battle, but text communication is far better than an awful annoying voices struggling with dodgy translations. And yes there is the odd grammatical and spelling errors dotted about, but I wont mark the game down for that as it adds a certain charm and reminds you that this is a Russian game.So far I have only come across a few variations of ships within the game (which can have different load outs), but I have changed my mothership 3 times by following the missions, which so far have been a bit same old, same old. There are hints however of a deeper storyline yet to be discovered. Time will tell I guess. The interface is still the same and still a bit fiddly. If you are familiar with the earlier games, you will see nothing new in the UI. Could have been better, more intuitive. Now onto annoying things, Those lovely rendered planets you might have seen are just backdrops. You cant land on them or (so far) even fly toward them. The play area stops short of that. Also the stations. There is no docking sequence as such. You just fly up to them and a window pops up asking for conformation, then you go to the trading screen were you can sell your salvaged parts from battles. Oh, yes during battles, destroyed ships leave weapons, shield generators and what not, which the mothership automatically hoovers up. So far I have a hold full of escape capsules and cant figure out how to off load them as yet. So this might be a bug. Commodities so far have not made an appearance like in Elite or the X games, so I seem to be stuck as a junk trader selling salvaged parts. The fighters (my current Mother ship has docking bays for 4) handle ok and can be improved with better load outs. Still could be better though as the UI is not the most responsive I have seen in a game. Combat using the Mothership can be tricky as it only has certain hardpoints on the hull which can lay down fields of fire. There is definite gaps in this and while you try to manoeuvre the ship to bring its guns to bear, zippy bombers can give you a real pounding without you being able to return fire. Might be improved with upgrades though, I hope. Now I come to the most worrying thing, the size of the game. The last two games were over 1000 megs in size, this new game is only 250 megs. Could this indicate a really short game? Or perhaps they have managed to reduce its file size because of the lack of voice overs? Even so, it does look on the small side.Overall then, its not what you would call an essential purchase. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible, but it could have been a lot better so I will give it say, 65 out of 100. Homeworld is still way better, despite it's age. If you don't have this, buy that instead is my advice.

Greetings all :-)Well, my first post.I searched the net for any info about Star Wolves 3 and ended up here. Im having great fun with the game but I felt like modding it a bit. Just incase there should be another soul here who likes to edit their game I wanted to share my wisdom sofar :-)And if the forum rules forbids to post such info, im very sorry.Tools:Notepad++(but I will think any txt editor will do)First I need to find the real name of the ship/fighter to edit.
Code:
PathC:\!GM\Star Wolves 3 - Civil War\Data\LocData\EnglishFilem_carcasses.loc
Then I open the file to edit.
Code:
PathC:\!GM\Star Wolves 3 - Civil War\Data\GameFileCarcasses.xml
So, lets say I want to edit the fighter called Machete. So I got to m_carcasses.loc and search for Machete, aaah, the name they give it in the Carcasses.xml is #M_Name_Hatchet, back to Carcasses.xml, search for it and you can ALMOST start editing.Looks like if I change a ship, the enemy might also end up using that ship. I hope to be able to make my own ships but im no hardcore modder :-)Looks like there are diffrent versions of #M_Name_Hatchet.Im guessing the player ships are called :its the _p10 to notice.also foundInterceptor name="Hatchet_pat0"Interceptor name="Hatchet_pir0"Interceptor name="Hatchet_uss0"Interceptor name="Hatchet_tri0"Interceptor name="Hatchet_ino0"Im guessing the others are other factions. And make a backup of Carcasses.xml, much more fun then to reinstall the game over and over, I forgot to backup, lolUpdate -Start cash

Code:
Path : C:\!GM\Star Wolves 3 - Civil War\Data\ScriptsYou can change start cash in the file : InitTeamScript.scriptLook for SetPlayerCredits
Start Perk points

Code:
Path : C:\!GM\Star Wolves 3 - Civil War\Data\GameYou can change start Perk points in the file : Pilots.xmlLook for points>15(other nice stuff there to, piloting, guns, rockets)Other pilots :#M_pilot_Name_Lastochka = Ternie#M_pilot_Name_Sedoy = Greyhair
Ingame Cheat code
Code:
To enable console open Main.ini file located in the game folder.Under section [GAME] is entry "DEBUGMODE = 0". Change value to "1" (without quotes). Save the file. Now you can open console in-game by pressing [Shift]+[~] keys.To enable cheats open the console and type in "g_cheats 1". Now you have enabled cheats.Cheats: I - God Mode (No damage to you your mothership or your fighters unless its part of a mission)So now first close console then push Shift and i to get the BIG I :-)

Oh no problem at all Kendric, post all your Star Wolves 3 mod info here. I never ban anyone unless they are spamming or being very rude to members. Outside of that everything is welcomed. I guess your considered an old gamer if you have played the original elite when it came out :)Oh here is a decent review on Star Wolves 3: http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/pc/2010/03/06/star-wolves-3-civil-war-review/1. I wouldn't agree to there rating and most of the comments disagreed with the reviewer.
