Terminus

Post by Shingen »

One of the first d3d space sims that had Newtonian physics / 6 degrees of movement. I'm not surprised that this site hasn't featured this game, as it was one of those that flew beneath the radar, but reached excellent space-simming qualities. Basically, in Terminus the campaign story is rather cliche and not of any interest. The true beauty of Terminus is in it's flight model and combat. However, this game is for hardcore space-simmers only.. as it uses pseudo-Newtonian physics, so it's combat isn't a Freelancer type point-and-click mode game, but a strategic dance of velocities and vectors.http://www.vvisions.com/terminus/story_frame.htm

Hi ShingenYes Terminus was a seriously underrated game. Freespace 2 took all the attention as I think they both came out at the same time. Now that you have mentioned it, I must fire it up again. I wonder if any mods were ever done for it? Think I will pop over to the ModDB forums for a look!

I don't know.. but I have always played this game... I've always enjoyed the gameplay..I guess because it wasn't so easy.. and even though it was based in the Sol starsystem... one could fly from Earth to Mars..but it would take several real-time days to get there.. the game wasn't boxed in sectors.. like FFE, but you could fly from Earth to Mars.. or Jupiter..Mercury..ect.. but it just took forever..

Do you mean the xgame,as you can fly to all the planet/moon and land on them in FFE.I like Terminus it rememinds me a lot of Babylon5.

Yea, if there was ever a game "made" to do a proper B5 mod, this was it. I do know about "I've Found her". Found that a bit fiddly to get the hang of. Also liked the Homeworld B5 mod too, http://www.b5mods.com/

I'm currently playing this, and Tachyon the Fringe, and Evochron Legends, which can be a pain with the different controls. :PAt least I'm not lacking on the Space-sim front. At first, I wasn't impressed. Numerous bugs, and really, really dated graphics, more so then tachyon. I modified my controls to add a mouse, so I was happy about that.Just finished the tutorial, so I'll have to see how the respective campaigns go. If I read right, the mercenary campaign is pretty free-form, with the military ones being structured linear mission trees.
