Lighting model

Post by Feenicks »

I mentioned in another thread how great it would be if there could be a ship-mounted lamp which could be used to cast light on the darkened face of a planet so you can see the terrain you are landing on (kind of looking like a giant size Doom 3 flashlight), but while I was playing Pioneer just now I noticed something else which might benefit from some form of light model being implemented into the rendering portion of the game.I had landed on a dead planet with two moons and I noticed that one of the moons was about to move in front of the star, resulting in a solar eclipse. I sped up time with baited breath, wondering if the rendering engine would cast a shadow onto the planet or if the atmosphere would grow dark ... but the moon simply passed in front without any change. Are there any plans to include a realistic lighting model in the future?
