The mod teamsare just now starting to reorganize after this abrupt action was taken against them, althoughno cease & desist letters have been received yet. Some of the fans and/or mod staff, are theorizing that this may be in relation to the official BSG Onlinegame getting lackluster results among the BSG gamer community, so they are trying to restrictwhat they may consider as competition.I've tipped Kotaku since they ran a BSG article not long ago... but this is sure to stir people up.
RE: BSG Mods wiped from ModDB
That is a shame. I feel sorry for all those mod makers, but this is always a risk when you use someone else's IP. I do hope NBC will reconsider
RE: BSG Mods wiped from ModDB
I think it creates some bitter gamers in the end. the overall goal of NBC should be to increase the brands popularity and this isn't going to happen if you restrain some of your fans from modding their favorite games to have BSG assets. Is BSG Online the end all to the IP, heck no that's why I don't play it. It doesn't give me what I want in a BSG game. It's really a shame that the entertainment market is solely driven by money instead of spoiling the fans, when you do that they tend to spend their money
I guess we shouldn't complain much because it could be worse George Lucas could be doing the same thing.
RE: BSG Mods wiped from ModDB
Does seem a tad heavy handedBut I guess that the risk you run if you base a game or mod on some one else’s IP.
RE: BSG Mods wiped from ModDB
I personally would just put the mods back up if I were the modders. Unless they are profiting from it or actually using clips from the show NBC has no legal grounds to complain.
RE: BSG Mods wiped from ModDB
With the big heavyweights out there trying to milk as much as they can from existing IP's, who knows what lengths these companies will go to protect their maximum profit. I do agree though Roguestar, I think people should just re-upload them. As long as they are free mods and no one is making money. They should embrace it and do what Valve did and hire the best modders to make a damn game of their world and sell it <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> They have no clue that modding is a great form of flattery for your IP and it is a form of advertising.Just throwing this out there, if anyone makes a space game PLEASE feel free to make a SpaceSimCentral station <img src="'http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gif class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Well, just look at the interest in Elite that it's modded and re-made original games generated. I bet David Braben and Ian Bell were well flattered.
