To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Looking for a game

Hi, iam looking for the name of a game i played ages ago 😀 it was a top-view 2d space shooter with little rpg elements afair. You could obtain enemy ships after u beat them in a battle but you could only have like 6 ships at the same time. In battles you controlled one of your ships , the rest was AI handled.

I think it was an open-world game in our spacesystem , real names etc.

You could land on the planets, there was a shop, you could talk to various people (afair, the game was english and back in that time i didnt understand english lol!)

The controls were easy: there was no break, you had to turn in the opposite direction and accelerate.

ps: sry for my very bad english ^^

thx, but it isnt starcontrol 2 🙁 if i remember correctly it wasnt a dos game.

I forgot to mention that the battles happen in an extra area , a not to big and not to small box, sometimes with little asteroids inside the box , the box was visualized by simple lines.

The description of starcontrol 2 on mobygames does sound like that game, maybe it was a remake or something -> The Ur-Quan Masters aint it 😉

hi, sry for the late reply, It isnt one of the games mentioned.

It was on a games-cd, my father gave me loads of cds around 2003(or 2004), most of them some years old , so i cant really say in which year the cd came out. I searched for a list of Game-magazines back then in germany, but sadly i cant find a list of games on their cds.

I played the game on windows XP if that helps you.

It seems like Escape Velocity Nova. Came out in 2003. It's a great game.

Ive Downloaded the trial of EV nova, it seems to be very smiliar to the game, but it aint it.

You couldnt shoot outside of a battle and if you flew over a planet you landed directly.

Looks like a good game too. Iam searching now for similar games as EV nova, since it is like the game iam searching only some things are not similar

edit: The graphics werent pseudo-3d like in ev nova 🙂

The game you mention is almost certainly either Escape Velocity or Escape Velocity: Override. They are two of my favourite games of all time.

EV: http://i1-mac.softpedia-static.com/scre ... 1183_2.png

Override: http://www.macupdate.com/images/screens ... 07_scr.jpg

Seem familiar? They only run on Mac OS 9 but you can download a "classic" mod pack for Escape Velocity: Nova (mentioned earlier in this thread) which allows you to play the old games through Nova.
