To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Trying to find the name of a classic sim

So the other day I was on a nostalgia kick and I remembered my first space combat game, but for the life of me I could not remember the name!!! IT has been killing my little brain for days now and i hope you guys can help. I think it was a dos game but it might have been windows. You start on some distant moon or something and your commander gets killed and you take over. The cool thing was that you could talk to your wingmen/women and choose who you take. If they died, they were dead forever. If your ship was damaged, you had to pay to repair it or take it back out damaged. Between missions you could talk to your mechanic or squad mates. I remember one of the ships you could fly was called the cheetah. I am sorry, but I mostly just remember the imagoes of the game. Please help me if you can!!!!

P.S> It was not a wing commander game or any other really popular game.

Tachyon: The Fringe had wing-men??

I must have completely missed that, and the killed captain plot, in my playthroughs.

Great game though..

Sorry Squee, I don't know what game it might be.

Perhaps some more specific info would help others,

like 2d,3d,top-down,side-scrolling,first/third view,etc..?

No it's defiantly not Tachyon. It is an old space sim that I am thinking of, I just wish my memory would work better. 😳 Mmmmmmm, Star Crusader, Epic, Star Lord or something around that sort of era? This ship called "Cheetah"........... 😕

Thanks for all the replys!!! I know it is not Tachyon. I have thqt game on my shelf (good game thou). I have been racking my brain for details but it is difficult. I remember that the two games I played were that and Elderscrolls Dagger fall, so it had to be around the same time that game came out. Graphics, might have been sprites, but I am pretty sure they were more like the graphics in x-wing vs tie fighter. Same view point as XVT in any case. You had shields and I know diffrent ships had diffrent weaopns. There were lighter ships like the cheetah and heaveir ships. I think you earned money somehow becasue you had to repair your ships. I also remember there were alot of wingmen you could talk to like the first wing commander, but you could choose who you fly with and if you lost them they were gone. I remember not wanting to use the girls cause they were cute and I did not want them to die. (I was young) I also rmember pilots talking to you and each other during fights (vioce over and text). Sorry I wish I could remember more, but that is why it is drving me nuts!!!!!!! Keep at it thou, someone has to know!

so many games, so little time 😆

wow, a colored commander! this would have been a must to me ❗

battle for jacobs star i haven't found so far, only used for a few $, but i don't give up

therefore the primarely Renegade Interceptor

http://www.myabandonware.com/game/renegade-legion-interceptor-zt

edit: http://download.gameternity.com/files/abandonware/R/

found the right game i guess the battle for jacobs star

critics for "jacobs star" arent as good as the ones for "interceptor", but we don't depend on others do we?

it seems like it was a whole universe of text RPG's and board games that run under the title "Renegade", sadly the ongoing was offered to Battle-Tech.

yes yes, thanks i take all credits thanks in advance, merci, danke shure no problem gerngeschehen
