To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Additional Alpha "keys"

I'm posting this here because I'm guessing I'm not the only one with this question. I obviously backed for Alpha. I also at the end increased my pledge to take advantage of the additional copies (2 extra copies personally). Now my wife is wondering if she can get in on the alpha too. So the question is, do you have any options/ideas of options for people who HAVE backed already at the alpha level and who HAVE purchased additional copies to get additional copies of the alpha?

Good point, thanks for bringing this up!

I will sort something via kickstarter messaging system as I will need to conduct a survey as to what people want for the extra donations etc, I will also use this opportunity to gather some information so that I can rely less on the kickstarter messaging system for updating customers and do it via email.

expect to hear from me soon!.

P.S.

I am currently in the process of setting up paypal purchases, once that is confirmed working will send out messages etc, so soon means when its working, which I hope is soon but not entirely sure yet.

I posted an update on kickstarter a day or two thanking everyone and also stating you can get the game via the colonisation website, as I have never used paypal for business before I am still checking the system out.

I was considering different levels of purchases but had not considered those who want to "upgrade" from the kickstarter levels. (also those who changed their mind and want the alpha at that), I have also been doing a bit of work to the colonisation website to set this up, I am going to be doing some test runs with the paypal before its live to make sure there are no issues and then will send messages out to people.

so in short there will be options to do so and will make this known once its working!

I have just finishing updating the www.colonisationgames.co.uk website, I am having a few issues with the site not updating (its a friends server and my guess is the clock is wrong on it, meaning your computer doesn't think its been updated and uses its local cache) I have temporarily forced it reload the webpage when you visit, this seems to of worked partially as it has shown the updated content but not the updated layout (so some things are a little out of place)

Can people check the site to see if they are having issues, further more it now has pre-order and additional add-ons for those who missed the beta and alpha kickstarter.

I have tested the paypal system once myself and had no issues, for now I am only going to announce it here that its live so I can don't have lots of orders at once, allowing me time to solve any issues out, I would appreciate it if people who do buy the game via the site to give feedback here and any issues you may of had etc.

You should be able to give an alternative email address when purchasing, this is my only concern at the moment, when you purchase something can you confirm you get the option to and also could you put an email address in even if its the same as the one you use for paypal. (its hard for myself to thoroughly test paypal as I cant use my own account to purchase items from my account)

To force the site to reload the css/js files simply modify their urls to include ?_=1 at the end. This will tell the browser that it's a different page from the one it's used to, but once it reaches the server the ?_=1 will be lost since css and js files do not have dynamic content. This will allow the browser to cache the new one. Then if you make more changes just change the 1 to 2. The problem is not with your server but with the fact that many modern browsers think that caching the css files indefinitely is actually a good thing.
