To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I got this game last month and played it for about 10 hours or so.Thinking of renewing my subscription in a day or so. while i enjoyed the game i was a bit lost on some things and the new player chat was just garbage. so many people there i couldn't even tell when someone answered a question i posted. is there a SSC chat channel i could join?
this game is just kind of intimidating for someone like me who's never really played an mmo and i really would like to try a space sim mmo. i love the X3 games and really enjoy the trading and mining aspects of it and would like to play Eve that way.
I have some concerns though. i read all these horror stories about people's profiles getting stolen and their credit card info getting jacked. is this very common, i only have a prepaid cc and there's never much money on it but i still don't want some fu**er taking what little i have ya know.
i just renewed my subscription a little while ago and started a new character.
So can we maybe start a corp. or something. i'm not saying i want to be in charge of it. hell no. it'd be the worst corp. ever with my noob ass in charge 😛
i could join the pc gamer corp if i wanted but i'd rather play with my fellow space sim fans.
well if anyone wants to join or maybe take charge of this, please reply and maybe we'll get something going.
I don't play EVE personally, but feel free to represent 🙂
I think if your going to create a corp, it would be cool if the SSC ships were different to the run of the mill craft in the game. Modded craft like ships from Elite or Wing Commander would be cool <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_mrgreen.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Get a couple of righteously armed Thargoid invasion ships or the Tiger's Claw packed with Hornets and Rapiers orbiting the main base to keep any greifters away <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_lol.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I don't know if Eve allows modded content though, probably not <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_confused.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':?' />
thanks Darkone.
and yea i doubt you can mod in Eve but that's a good idea.
well if nobody wants to do this with me i guess i can join up with pcg corp. but i hope we get some people here interested. eve just seems like a community driven game. i imagine most people here that do play it might already be with some other corp already though. i'll give it a week or so, to see if anyone is interested.
Why not start the SSC Corp while your in the game and see if any of the existing players will join up with you? You already know the sort of people who inhabit this forum, I am sure you can find like minded people in the Eve universe <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
If you manage to do it, do post some screen shots <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
There is a few people here that do play its whether they will notice this post or not?
I think a big reason why I never played EVE was because of the fact the game has been going so long now and starting out would be difficult and you would probably have to join an established clan to survive/prosper. I usually only start MMO's on release or shortly after so I don't feel like I am left behind.
If you manage to do it, do post some screen shots 🙂
i'm not even sure how to start a corp. lol. i can check on that though.
And DarkOne. now is a good time to start playing Eve IMO. from what i hear, the tutorials were pretty much non-existent back in the day. now there's a really awesome tutorial system and the learning curve isn't bad at all really. you meet some great people too. this dude on the pc gamer chat channel last night knew that i was new, we got to talking and stuff. he asked me how much isk($$$) i had, i told him. then he says 'check again' dude gave me 100,000,000 isk. i couldn't believe it. normally i wouldn't take something free like that in Eve but since he was from pcg i took it and thanked him.
you know, maybe i could start a SSC chat channel and start posting about it here and other places to inform people. then maybe move on the corp thing.
and if anybody wants to try Eve...DarkOne 😛 i have some invites good for 21 days i can give you.
ok i just made a Space Sim Central chat channel. i'll go make a thread about it on the Eve forum here. would it be cool if i put it in general discussion or something like that?
I would gladly accept the offer, but I doubt I would play much because I am doing some research on some site software and I have to play some games and do some reviews.
I played Eve for about 5 years (up until this time last summer). I'm not currently subscribed (thinking of returning soon), but I can help you out if you have any questions or get stuck with anything (private message is the best way as I don't check forums every day).
The eve universe is so big it can take time to find the different groups and communities that are around. Don't give up though, as the best stuff in the game IMO comes when working as a team
hey thanks James. i was starting to think nobody would reply to this. well i hope you do start playing again. i started a Space Sim Central (that's the name too) chat channel but have not seen anyone on it. not sure if a lot of people on this forum play eve or maybe just aren't that active.
so far i'm enjoying the game very much even by myself. i'm just learning right now. been doing those starter missions after the tutorial. started with the mining missions, finished those and am now doing ones for distribution i think. i'm not that into the combat yet as i enjoy mining, trading, exploration more. i could join the pc gamer corp now if i wanted but i'd like to see if maybe this will happen first. if not, then maybe i'll join them or some other corp.
a really nice dude i met on the pc gamer chat channel was really nice and gave me some starting isk since i was very new. he gave me 100 million isk. i couldn't believe it. i wouldn't have accepted it but i figured he was cool since we're both from that forum and all.
i' have a lot of the basic stuff figured out i think but what i want to learn is all about the stuff i see on the market. implants, shields, weapons. stuff like that. i want to learn more about all that but i'm sure it takes time and you just kinda learn as you go. i love how deep that game is. like if i want to use so-and-so shield i have to learn a skill, but first i need to learn this skill before i can even learn that skill to use the shield, lol i like that for some reason.
I'd recommend you join the PC gamer corp. You will meet people and learn stuff you won't sitting on your own. You can always leave later and as long as you are up front about your intentions with the corp leadership, I'm sure they'll be happy to have you. Some corps in Eve are self-proclaimed "hardcore" and only take super-committed pvp players, but you'll know when you run into one.
Another option is eve university, a corp specially for older players to help out newbies (assuming they are still going). It's a massive corp, but you should be able to find people there who are fairly chilled
Even if you never join a corp, the game comes alive when you do things together with others, and joining a corp is the best way to meet others in game (assuming it is an active corp, and may are not)
The upside (and downside) of Eve is that it takes time. Time to learn skills, time to learn all the items, time to learn all the mechanics
well if you do start playing again, why don't you start up a SSC corp? DarkOne said it was cool if we used the name. just a thought. I'd start it but who would join a corp that was started by someone who's only been playing a few days... 😆
i got an idea maybe
if corps owned by people on ssc someone could make an alliance and we pull to null sec
and eve universe well you better get out of there after what i heard from my brother that they're going to war with AAA
basically they're dead
Could you give me an invite? I'd be more then willing to help you out <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I have played eve before but just the trial, but in the time i played i got a few things down and have a general understanding of the game <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
I finally resubscribed to Eve. My in-game name is "Spoon Thumb". Feel free to start a private conversation with me any time, or send me an evemail (in-game email system)
