To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Mass Effect

I am shocked to see no Mass Effect thread started...

It is by far ONE of the best games I have played for the 360.

Has anyone else played the game? What did you think? What where your favourite moments? Etc...

I have heard good things about Mass Effect. I don't think there are still any plans to release this one on the PS3 but it looks pretty damn good. But now that EA owns BioWare the PS3 might get a bit more attention. Microsoft throwing there weight around and getting certain exclusives is really a drag sometimes and I know the same is with Sony as well. All game houses need to just make games for all platforms and only the game devs for Sony or Microsoft can make exclusives 🙂

I see that there are some previews of mass effect 2 starting to show up.

Never got to play the first one because of the DRM on the pc ver of the game, look's like I will just have to buy a 360.

Don't mind DRM so played a lot DRM'ed games.

Played ME on PC and realy enjoyed it.

i find it strange to wander around a space ship Normandy but can't interact with it in any space faring way. It's purpose is just like a stargate. just to get you to planet or starbase action. And follow the mainquest or some repetive side quest.

The main story is very cool

Likewise always thought it was shame they never put in any ship actionin the game could have made a great game awsome.

I think they consider it, for the final part of the trilogy. Although it had not, ship to ship combat, it was very well documented in the codex.

Be great if they do inclued ship combat into the last part of the game, after all I think most of the old space rpg had some sort of spaceship combat and its aways felt a little strange that Mass Effect never had any.

I've thought about that and ofcourse it would be nice, but that's as far as I've been able to justify taking it. I think it would've been just too much to ask to have spaceship battles in the game. It would be like building in a new game into the existing game, and for a game that already gives us SO much, it just doesn't seem reasonable. If it did have space battles with you piloting the Normandy, that would just be the ultimate game imo.

I'm so disappointed that this isn't on the PS3, but that ME2 preview video was great and looks very polished. Maybe i'll pick them both up in some type of package deal when #2 is released.

Why do you want a console version more than the pc version (for part 1)? The PC version is considered better & more polished, most websites rate the PC version .5 higher on a scale of 1-10. Not to mention it's well cheaper on PC.

I know that I always prefer consoles, but I would've thought for people like you who've been playing games on PC for many years, you'd be just as comfortable playing on PC as you would console.

Simple 52+" TV with 1080p, may sound trivial but playing games on a large screen is nice and my sofa is way more comfortable 😆

Ah well, say no more mate. I'm sitting on my bed, and my computer is hooked up to my 48 inch. Couldn't have it any other way. Can't you hook up your computer to that TV?

That's in the livingroom downstairs. I have been wanting to hook a pc to it but then my wife would never see me because I would have my pc/ps3 in one place 🙂 I have been wanting to get like a 27" LCD TV for my desk so I can do both, but that will probably next year sometime.

Well, I bought a 360, just to play this game. And a couple of weeks later the PC version, was announced. 😀

Well I have a DX11 AMD Game rig and a PS3 linked with a Samsung 25.5" T260HD MonitorTV. And a DVB-C hookt to it to.

My iNtel/nVida DX10 rig hooked to a Samsung 22" 3D monitor.

IF you game from 75cm view distance a 25.5" screen is big.

If one day 30" monitors get affordable wich are accualy a qaud matrix of 2x2 15" 1280x800 in one Panel 2560x1600. Wich would be ultra HD.

How ever we got also two 42" PC with PS3 on it.

And a Xbox360 to a 22" monitor.

And for gaming it isn't relaxe if you are intens competing in MW2. So to me 42" on 3 meter vs 25,5" on 75cm the later seems better. It is just that it's a bad TN panel and cant game in 1080P. But my PC can do 1920x1200 easy.

And I mis ship combat in Mass Effect. Boarding gameplay would be possible to.

Since i'm probably one of the only people here that hasn't played Mass Effect 🙂

I bought the game at $4.99 and will give it a try on it, couldn't pass it up. Would like to see a ME2 with all DLC included in like a GOTY edition or something.

Did you get round to playing that DarkOne?

I really liked the first one, but didn't think the second one was as good.

Playing the first one still and I think I am about 60% through it because the story seems like it is progressing to the end. I will buy ME2 probably for my PS3 since it will have all available DLC with it come the new year.

I got both games on Steam, did a complete play through of the first one then imported my character into the second one. You get bonuses in game for doing that. Also another cool thing I liked was, the choices you made in ME1 had an influence on what happened in ME2. Got some of the DLC too, liked the Shadow Broker mission and the Cerberus add-on gives some handy weapons, armour and a new hovercraft to explore planets with in some missions.

I could have finished ME1 a while ago but I play maybe 1-2x a week. But I am a completionist at heart and tries to do every quest and accomplish all achievements 🙂 The importing of your character into ME2 is a nice touch (BioWare is doing that with Dragon Age 2), I would buy ME2 for the PC. But I think I will buy it for my PS3 just because I have never played a scifi game on my PS3 and I want too. What better game to do it with than ME2 GOTY edition that comes out in Jan. Plus it will look sweet on the big screen. I was watching the visuals of that latest DLC and wow what great visuals compared to ME1.

I just completed ME1 this weekend actually and I had a great time playing, I thought about playing through it again to unlock more achievements but decided against it. Yeah not a space sim at all but it is a great scifi based RPG that I think everyone should try. i thought the boss fight at the end was a bit too easy or my weapons and stats were to good 😉 But overall BioWare did a great job with ME1 and I cannot wait to play ME2 when it comes out for the PS3.

I really enjoyed exploring the planets (the info boxes on each planet was a great touch) and the crew interaction I liked the most in the game. If ME1 had a space combat piece it would be perfect 🙂

ME1 was well worth my $5 I bought it for on sale.

HA! So you finally got around to Mass Effect? I remember a year ago giving you a very hard time about the fact that you hadn't tried it yet! Now you see why, yes?

And you're right, Mass Effect 2 will be fantastic on the ps3. Makes me wish I could erase my memory so that I could play through the game again. 😆

Hey D1, you do know that they have the free Mass Effect 2 demo up at the playstation store, right? You should download it and give it a spin. You could see all the improvements they've made. It's quite a lengthy demo too.

I will just surprise myself and just buy the game when it comes out in I think Jan/Feb, I like the fact that it is coming with all the DLC and they say they have touched it up just for the PS3 release. So I am sure its going to shine, I think I will make myself a trophy whore for this game like I did for RDR.

You ain't gonna be disappointed mate. ME1 and ME2 are probably among the top 10 games all-time...certainly on my list anyway, and also by cumulative review standards. They really did improve upon ME1 in almost every way for ME2 as well. The story flowed much better in ME1, the whole discovery of the reapers and then Shephard's interaction with that one ("You exist because we allow it, and you will perish because we demand it" 😮 ) was just epic. Also, I liked the modular guns/upgrade system better in ME1. There were WAY more guns than in ME2. Other than those 2 areas, ME2 is superior in every way. Still can't believe there are sci-fi geeks/gamers like us out there who still haven't picked up this game yet.
