To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Galaxy Prime

Just noticed on the PC Gamer forum, that a turn-based tactical adventure created with Game Maker called Galaxy Prime will soon have a version 0.1 release. Basically (from what I can tell from the post) it is "loosely" based on the away missions from Star Trek and especially the comedy deaths of the poor red shirts, although the dev, Cirius flatly refutes this 😆

Anyways, it looks like it could be a fun game going from planet to planet via a 2D map and exploring. Cirius is also looking for ideas and suggestions to what people would like to see in the game. I will let him know about this post too, perhaps he might drop by?

Good find Geraldine, reminds me a bit of StarTrek Away Team

Cirius should run with the idea of comedy deaths of the red shirts 😀

Looking at that thread again and the dev is wondering if anyone might consider making some sprites for the game. I think they need to be 16 x 16 pixels to quote "Currently, I could do with space ships, animals, mysterious creatures, fruit, vegetables, trees, shrubs, objects...

To be honest, there's not a lot I couldn't find use for. If it's 16x16, I'll take it..."

Hi Ollobrain

I already left a link back to this thread on the PC Gamer site. It's really up to Cirius if he decides to pay us a visit here, although I do hope he does 🙂

Not as such Darkone, just that thread I posted. The game itself seems in the very early stages at the moment, but I will keep tabs on the thread for updates.

A little update. Cirius is still working away on Galaxy Prime. He is concentrating on the AI at the moment as he has introduced a "repel boarders" mission were the hapless heroes in the game get their ship hijacked. Here is a screenshot.

Can’t help but think the graphic style would look better as a top down rather than side on.

I know what you mean Pinback, but I think the dev is learning as he goes. I am sure these are just rough work in progress graphics until he nails down the AI problems.

If that's not top-down, I don't know what is. Unless you mean "looking at the top of the characters' heads" in which case I must say the way he's doing it looks much better in general, and is functionally identical anyway.
