To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I just found this tonight when doing some searching and this classic from the late 90's that not too many people know about is getting a remake by Andrew Fenn. They are trying to make the game as close to the original as possible. It is still under development and will be for a while longer. But what I like most about this project is that Orge3D is being used for the engine and that has a lot of possibilities. I noticed that this thread on Hardwar forums have some building models under construction here: http://forum.freegamedev.net/index.php? ... 783742b805
They need help testing and if you have some modeling experience you may lend a hand. Go and check out the original game (game developer is bankrupt) and game isn't being distributed anymore so its a tough one to find.

This is actually one of my old-time favorite games. I have been following the development of the UIM project for several years...
To install to original game on XP, there is one major requirement. The problem is our hard drives have grown well beyond original estimates in the game. Back then they only calculated for a 2 gig HD space limit. Since this is the case you will only be able to install and run HW on a partition with 2 gig or less room left. It took me several days to get this game to work and that is what it turned out to be.
Hey Lancer you might be interested that some of the fansites have the ISO's for download.

I haven't tried to install it yet since I have Vista on my machine but it is saved away. I found that the company is no longer in existence and the publisher isn't either. Just trying to find the official notice that it can be distributed and I will upload it to my download area.
Lancer, the solution for this is to set the installer - install.exe found on the CD - to "Windows 98/ME" compatibility mode before running it, after which the game should install normally on everything but a Windows 2000 machine. Worked fine on my XP SP3.
I will try to upload the Hardwar ISOs this weekend if I have some extra time to package them up. I know there is some patches for it to so I will try and track those down too.
The weekends just aren't long enough for you, are they, Darkone? 😉
I'd be interested to hear how you get on if you do manage to install it, though. I feel the graphics are a touch sluggish, not as smooth as they should be on a PC and GFX card several years older than the game itself. In fact, I seem to recall it being smoother back on my old PIII 800! I'm not bothered enough to start messing about with drivers, though; it's not that big a deal. Perhaps there's a solution along the lines of the install problem, some tweak...I'll have a scout when I get a moment.
I had the game running on a windows 98 Pentium 2 laptop.
IIRC the game ran pretty well. You know I think I might be able to get this game to run on my netbook.
Just a FYI I did upload the full game to the download are it is roughly 550MB in size, so hopefully people won't kill my bandwidth 🙂 But I will make a more official post on Hardwar this weekend after I look through some more things and create a download patch section for Hardwar. Don't want to take away from this thread since it is a Hardwar 2 thread.
