To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Firstly, in order to play the game, you MUST have a WIRED XBOX 360 CONTROLLER attached to your PC. Secondly, your machine MUST support 1080i resolution (that's 1920 by 1080 if memory serves). Thirdly, you MUST understand that this is a beta build and as such it may well crash. Since it's managed code it shouldn't trash your machine, but I CAN NOT PROMISE YOUR MACHINE WILL NOT BE ALTERED FOR THE WORSE IF YOU CHOOSE TO INSTALL AND RUN THE GAME. If you DO download and install the game, you are entirely responsible for anything that happens to you or your machine.
The faster your machine, and the better your graphics card, the better the game will run. So far I've run it on a Core i3 machine with 4gb or RAM and a $50 ATI PCI-E card with no problems but I haven't tested it on my laptop yet. If you download the game and it a) won't install or b) doesn't run or c) runs poorly or crashes then PLEASE let me know either here or on twitter (@DrMistry) or use the link to our Facebook page (to the left there). If there are any tweaks you think would make it a better game, let me know. That's exactly the kind of thing I want to know about!
So finally the, after all that, here is the Windows version of the game that took 2 years to write. It takes a little getting used to, but I got lost for 2 hours flying around and fighting and trading and in fact, it's a better game than I remember. It seems to run better on Windows than on xbox (go figure...) and I hope there are more PC types who like it than there were XBLIG fans! Have a lovely time with it, and I hope it whets your appetite for the all-new game which I'm starting to work pretty seriously on. DrMistry Loves You All!
Well here it is ladies and gents, the xbox arcade title, that STRONGLY resembles Elite, with dozens of new features and thingies for you to play around with. It REQUIRES a 360 controller, so take that as you will. Im just happy it finally got ported to PC.
Enjoy!
(no I havn't played it on PC, I remember back when I had my 360 it was alot of fun. 🙂 )
Hey this is good news! 🙂 I've had this title on my 360 for quite some time, although at times I struggled to view what was happening due to not having an HD TV. So I will try this out as I do have a wired controller. Going to try other controllers too and see how they work. Thanks for letting us know Ironhound 😉
EDIT: Hit some snags trying to run it as it crashes on startup, but I have contacted MStar games to see if they can help.
Excellent news DrMistry did say he would release a PC version of the game. 😀
Bit of a nuisance about the wired 360 controller, I will try it with my PS1 controller and see if it’s recognises it
That if I can find it.
I wonder if a Xbox 1 controller could be modded to work with it?
Went to install the game and it’s asking for some thing called “NET Framework†to be installed first.
Might work with a original X box pad if you have a USB converter for it.
Yes, that was what I was afraid of. I think the game needs NET Framework 1.1 as I have all the other versions already installed. My machine doesnt like 1.1 very much so I guess I will have to pass on this one 🙁
An update on the PC version of SPFT. MStar Games sent me a message that the package is missing the XNA installer, but they promise to fix it soon. 🙂
With the XNA installer will that only give the PC user the ability to play it with a Xbox controller or will there now be PC controls?
Be nice if they added some PC controls even if it was just the ability to use a generic game pad.
I don't think MStar games will go that far in making the game fully PC compatable, it would be good if they did though! 🙂
From what I can tell, they are working on another title and released SPFT to drum up interest. Could this mean they are working on a new space sim? Only time will tell.
There is a good possibility of a sequel as DrMistry mentioned a possible feature in the original thread about space pirates
Don't think it would be a Frontier like transition from space to planet surface probably something more like the one used in Freelancer/Privateer for the planet bases.
