To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Here's another by the name of Space Probe, which is free by Indie Company Deep Division. The link is here:

I've yet to give it a trial run, but it appears to be an exploration sim in a very large universe. There is no indication that this is a fighting sim. There are game objectives, and the Universe is randomly generated for each new game. One screen for you:[attachment=90:Clipboard01.jpg]
I think farcodev 😉 will like this one 😀
Interesting and very authentic but - and you knew there would be a 'but' - my goodness it takes a long time to get anywhere! I mean not just travelling times, which can be considerable (keep some reading material handy), but also in the game itself. You really will need deep reservoirs of patience to be able to play this one to any kind of conclusion...assuming there is such a thing buried within the code. It's also a shame you're just staring at one screen for so long. My spoiled, 21st Century eyes ache to see this replicated with a fully 3D cockpit and universe to look at while you travel. Heck, I'd even settle for some buttons to click with my mouse - the text input, single screen GUI makes me feel like I'm trying to fly a futuristic space vehicle with a ZX Spectrum:
>10 GOTO Space Station.
>20 GOTO 10
>RUN
Some of my most memorable 'in-space' experiences were playing the ancient Pete Cooke classics, Tau Ceti and sequel Academy, on the Speccy some 25 years ago (showing my age here!), both of which required some text input to command the craft you were flying. Not exclusively, however; at some point you were asked to steer, fire laser and launch missiles through single-key or joystick presses. Also, you got a beautiful graphical display to watch while you travelled. While highly polished, Space Probe feels like a weird retrograde step.
Interesting, though. I wonder if the author has plans to update this in any way or even to work on something new in the same field?
Had this in the link list already and haven't tried it out yet.
Missed it on the link list... sound silly given how much time I spend here, but where is the link list so I can cross-reference if needed?
"Very interesting and authentic" Yeah, your right 😯 It isn't my cup of tea either though, I do have a fair amount of apprecitation for this type of sim... it's grounding every now-and-then to get a taste of how different the real thing is. I'm playing Terminus again, and it's great to say how realistic it is in terms of physics. but it isn't how things are done, yet.
Oh well, it's here for the hard-core simmers 😕
Right at the top of the page it says 'Links' 🙂
farcodev, several years back (2006 I believe) I recall shooting an e-mail your way regarding Far Colony... what I said back then still stands- I Loved playing Sierra's Outpost. Great Colony Sim.
Got no reason to be sorry friend, it's all in good-spirited fun 😀
