To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hello there!

I just wanted to say that I started working on my very, very first game. It's called "Untitled Game" (right now ;)), and it's strategy in space (applause please).

Because of my programing skills game will be 2D and made in game development kit called "Construct". I'm beginner but I really want to make this game so I wish you'll see effects of my work... soon... 😀

Right now there are some test and prototypes on my computer but there is only one available for download. For more info and "UntitleStrategyGame.exe" visit:

http://vos.datashellz.org/game.html

I hope you understand my English 😉

Hi 3331

It kinds of reminds me of Gratuitous Space Battles. I love that game, so good luck to you! 🙂 Hope you will keep us updated on your progress!

Hey 3331

You going to use the existing Construct engine or the new v2 that they just came out with this month? I have been waiting to use this engine until it is more mature. Because it does look like it will be a nice platform to make games when it gets a few more updates.

Hm... Yes, I was thinking about Construct 2 but there is one problem - C1 files aren't compatible with C2 ;/ Good UG progress isn't too big 😀 I'll try to learn new C2 and then I'll say in which one I'll make final game.

And specially for SSC: http://vos.datashellz.org/flakguns.exe (sorry that you can't move ships) Just made little PDS testing merged with "benchmark" :]

UPDATE: Ok... http://vos.datashellz.org/battletest.exe Next simple test.

In 2 maybe 3 weeks I'm going to release first real prototype so beware! Now I'm working on graphics and Battle Plan Editor.

First - sorry for double post 🙂

Okey. After long break I made next prototype. It's called "StarStrategy prototype 6" 🙂

It's more advanced than prev (lol). It looks better (for me). And it's bigger (~5mb).

Now you have got planning phase and simulation phase. Everything is in it (manual).

Planning:

To move ship icon press LMB.

To create waypoint for ship press RMB.

To change ship use mouse wheel.

Simulation.

To move camera use WSAD.

To zoom in/out use E/Q.

Some opinions, bug reports, AARs etc. will be good for development.

Update 9:20PM (GMT): New version - download here: http://www.speedyshare.com/files/29705890/starstrategy6.exe (search below for new version).

Not a bad start at all. What would be nice is being able to see all your ships attacking the other 4. I was only able to see two and didn't know the outcome of the battle? Keep up the good work!

Hm... I think I don't understand this at all... Why you wasn't able to view all your ships? The sight of view was too small? You used zoom out option?

If it doesn't looks like this:

[attachment=862:screenshot.PNG]

and this:

[attachment=863:screenshot2.PNG]

Something is wrong then.

Or maybe your ships have been destroyed ;P ?

Update 8:52 AM (GMT): New version!

changelog:

-map is bigger;

-ships are stronger (CL hull from 40 to 90; BC hull from 75 to 150);

-greens guns are slower and have got bigger range;

-reds guns are faster and have got smaller range;

-max. zoom out is bigger;

-more ships!

Next?

I wanna make better AI right now. After that I'll add some guns maybe and then this prototype will be done.

In next prototype (or maybe very alpha version) I'll modify/add some things and add multiplayer. Here is list of planned things in next prototype:

    More turns (no planning phase) - more like TBS (ex. Combat Mission);

    Turn time - 2 or 3 minutes;

    More units and weapons;

    Behaviours;

    Formations;

    Better graphics;

    Campaign;

    Mission editor;

    Big scale battles;

    Better battle mechanics;

But right now we have got StarStrategy prototype 6.

And here is new version 😉 Again, yay!

changelog:

-new ship explosion effect (enjoy it!);

-more red ships;

-bigger map (from 5 > 7 > 10);

-red and green guns are modified (all guns are slower and have got bigger range);

-minimap;

-outline is now always 1 pixel wide;

-battlecruisers have got triple guns;

-no more fast updates;

In my view 3331 all I saw was like in that second pic but I never saw the enemy it was only my two green ships. It probably has something to do with OS and resolution. I am running Win7x64 and 1920x1080 resolution. I will play around with your new version when I get home today and with that pic you provided it is looking good.

I will download new ati drivers for my card to make sure that isn't the issue but on the graphic window display size and type I have a hard time using the dropdowns to set the values I have to select it and use the scroll wheel to set because the dropdown closes to quickly.

On the planning screen I cannot seem to deselect BC11 when I left-click on another chip it just moves BC11 around the screen which then I can only set waypoints for that ship only. I have been winning battles 🙂

Try to use mouse wheel, normal selecting was somehow buggy so I switched it off 🙁

That's weird. You are the only one with this problem ;/ Maybe that's a problem 'cause game isn't compatible with your OS? I'll try to modify it.. Maybe I'll just change dropdown list to normal list 🙂

But in StarStrategy prototype 7 with your new drivers everything should be ok (with graphics) 😉 I hope. If not try to download DirectX Update from August 2008 (link). Maybe it'll help you.

For news visit development blog. I post there development news everyday. In this week I'll try to release test for closed community (post). You may feel invited. And every SSC user may feel invited too 🙂

And if you can spread message about closed tests 😉

Thanks 3331. I will install new drivers and update my Directx and see what happens.

Soon as you get a few more builds done I will talk about it on the blog area as well. I do my best to get games on there that deserve to be noticed and played, especially the indie games. So no worries I will be talking about StarStrategy very soon 🙂

3331 like in GSB are you going to allow modding and or ship design?

I haven't thought about it but why not 😉 ?

I modified that stupid graphics options and now you should be able to select them. Image:

Yesterday I finished new orders system (right now only vector order ;P) and I'm ready to make new orders/behaviours 🙂 Also I changed few minor things like minimap and some little bugs. Currently I'm working on carriers, fighters and new anti-shield weapons.

I've got some new ships concepts and I must re-make them in vector. New laser graphics is coming too.

Right now changlog (prototype 6 > 7) has got 27 lines 😀

Closed test will start for 60% in this week. I need more testers.

Hey 3331

I updated all my graphics drivers for my ATI4890 and installed DirectX redist for June 2010 (latest) and the graphics issue is fixed and using the scroll wheel will move through the ships on the screen. I still have a small problem with the the screen resolution/size drop down options. I usually just use the scroll wheel and it is fine but if I click on the down arrow it will expand for a split second and close. Not sure why it does this but does. No sense in burning time on this sense you said no one else reported it.

Do the letters that label the ships in the planning screen mean anything?

But nobody from my testers don't use OS like yours.

Ofc - Navy use shortcuts for ship classes 🙂 And digits are ship IDs.

    BC - Battlecruiser

    BB - Battleship

    CA - Armoured Cruiser (Heavy Cruiser)

    CE - Escort Cruiser

    CL - Light Cruiser

    DD - Destroyer

    CV - Aircraft Carrier (Fleet Carrier)

    CVE - Escort Carrier

    etc.

Just finished energy shells (new weapon) and added new laser graphics.

Not max. zoom out 😉

If you were on dev blog you should know about any development news. If not then here is little update for SSC.

Tests have started on 13th August but I've release only one version for testers. I've found some critical errors and started correcting them.

On 8th day after tests have started I've finished making prototype no.8 but it wasn't playable (a lot of bugs - no idea why). Now (13th day a.t.h.s.) it's 5th day of prototype no. 9. Currently it looks like this:

Graham-class armoured cruiser new graphics

Asteroid Field DOF effect

New Endurance-class armoured cruiser

Mark-I orbital defence platforms

    Maps are loaded from files.

    Ships are loaded from files.

    There are two weapons: gun (single, double and triple barrel) and e-shell.

    Each turret is different object.

    Multiplayer is under construction but it has low priority.

    I'm making new graphics for game.

    There are new guns under construction.

    Fighters are disabled right now.

    AI is stupid.

    New HUD.

    'Scanlines' effect is disabled (I think it looks better now).

SS development team is still open for ppl. Especially for testers and vector artists.

Visit dev blog.

Hm... You can try new art in-game. Just run updater and check changelog (from file or from dev blog).

Prototype no. 9 (20110829-2108) is released 🙂

Looong time no updates ;D

Okey, so I finally found some free time (not much) to develop StarStrategy. I've already changed a lot of things and I'am still working on new release 🙂

I think I'll upload new version in three days 😀

Graphics hasn't changed but I've got some screenshots:

Honestly, I really like the graphics. For some reason, they give me the feeling that I'm playing a twisted version of Homeworld 🙂

Hm... You may like soundtrack then because ambient sometimes sounds 'homeworld-ish' 😀
