To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

TSpace / Tactical Space Combat / Fleet Simulation

Hi Everyone,

For the past year I have been developing a Multi-Player / Turn based space combat game.  It has been progressing very well and gameplay is excellent.  We have been beta testing with a small group of people, and have started in to full fleet enguagements.

I have attached a Poll to get an idea of Community Interest in this sort of thing.

Features:

- Client / Server

- Full Physics Model

- Ship Design

- Scalable Time System

- Beam Weapons, Railguns, Missiles (Fully Modeled)

- Laser Based Zone Defense, CIWS Systems (Close-In Weapon Support)

- Hard-Sci Fi / Combat Orientated

- Full Component Based Damage Model

- MASSIVE amount of tactical choices that seem never ending

- Scalable - Team -> Fleet -> Element -> Ship

Just a screenshot of our current fleet enguagement (Projectiles Being Launched):

Closer Shot of his Southern Thrust:

One of my Railguns hit Jaguar (Frigate) as his Capital ships were to far away to provide enough CIWS.  The damage is bad, Sensors and CPU gone.

There are high-resolution images attached here: http://www.spacesector.com/blog/forum/thread-965.html

If anyone is interested in this type of game, and perhaps Beta in a few months.  I would be happy to hear from you.  The interface is easy to use, but the game is very complex.  If you ever wanted real Capital Ship control and tactics, here it is.  Call it Harpoon in Space. :).

Thanks,

CarlVon

Hi Everyone,

Game is going well.  We have a big fleet battle running right now.  There will be an after action report in a week or so.

For updated information during this phase: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3438050

In the future, once the server is up to the public, I will most likely make my home at SpaceSim -- This has become one of my favorite sites.  But for now there is a lot of chatter at the Matrix forum, so I will be posting updates there for now.

The thread at Matrix games has some additional information!  An after action report has been posted, along with part of the manual to get a feel for the game.

Sorry for the late reply, just saw this thread.

Hi Carlvon

With this being a client/server setup will the server only be ran by you or will anyone be able to create a server?

With being a turn based multiplayer game, do you have to stay connected the whole time or could a game last a few days with players logging in to take their turns when they have time? Almost like a play by email sort of system.

For me I guess what will attract me to this sort of game is the ease of use, you can make a complicated simulation without making it too complicated to learn how to play? Here is a decent project being worked on that is something like yours as well (i think) http://spacesimcentral.com/ssc/topic/977-my-little-space-game/

And as I offer to everyone if you need some forum space/download area for your game just have to let me know. Welcome to SSC 🙂

Hi DarkOne,

Thanks for the introduction, I really like the site.

Yes, it's true client server.  Currently I am maintaining the only server, if I was to shutdown the project I would release the code.  Right now we need to get all the players in one place.  The game is very hard sci-fi, so designs, technology etc. must be standardized.  With the level of customization, I could see this suffering from the MUSH/MOO etc issue.  This simulation was built to help truely model space combat for me.

You are correct, the game is designed to be played on a fragmented schedule :-).  You can login play your turn and then logout if you wish, there is email notification to let you know when your turn is done.  If you all want to play in "Real time" you can just keep it running.  It's flexable, our users are bound to have families and work to do :-).

The game is easy to play, a standard user takes about 30 minutes to get used to it, but skill won't come for awhile, the tactics and strategy are very involved.

You can read this current thread for much more info: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3438050

Also, I posted an After Action Report and part of the manual: (Links will expire soon)

Hi Everyone,

Game is going well. Here's an after action report for you to show a small battle. It should give you the flavor. We have a new tester on board so we should get some more large fleet actions going in a bit.

I have also attached one section of the manual to give you an idea of what gunnery is all about.
