To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

This brought a smile to my face to see this very early version of a computer still fully functional after all this time. Fujitsu made this to compete with IBM back 60yrs ago.
Vacuum Tubes, Magnets and 70sqm of space this beast takes up. Amazing how far we have come.
Rhoo excellent! 🙂 The technical characteristics are available: http://museum.ipsj.or.jp/en/computer/dawn/0012.html
180 x 69 bits of main memory, early floating point numbers ! 0.1 s for an addition, up to 1.4 s for a square root...
That is today's regular 100$ ish CPUs are about ten billion times faster !!!
And to think 60yrs later IBM is making CPUs that are 1mm x 1mm in size...
I probably got another 30-40yrs on the planet I just wonder what we will have by then....? Hopefully we will have technology that will stop me from loosing my memories and drooling on myself 🙂
