To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Awesome, mining is one of my favorite things to do in space games.

I think increasingly, the geeks who grew up immersed in sci-fi and saw the moon landings as kids are now the billionaire owners of giant tech companies, and have come to realise that unless they put some money on the table, those dreams just aren't going to become reality.

Of course none of them got rich by taking massive risky bets, so that's why you don't see them just chucking vast piles of cash at the problem, but if they are serious, then with a little bit of luck, commericalisation of space may yet happen.

I think asteroid mining is as good a way to start as any. Space tourism is fine, but I don't think it has as much potential (plus it is a lot riskier / more expensive to send humans vs robots up into space)
