To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I took this from some other place (had it stored in a text file for ages). I know the author personally and he writes a lot of these things (he's a good friend of mine).
So here goes:
1. Find an internet forum full of religious people.
2. Make an account.
3. Post the text below.
4. Wait & watch internet rage occur.
5. Successful troll is successful.
The Financial Theocracy.
Contrary to the dictionary, religion has in fact very little to do with god, gods, or derivatives thereof. Religion is a selective perception of the world, shared by its adherents, sustained by their social practices. This selective perception is ordained by some irrevocable little truth, and like all little truth, made manifest by it's adherents, guided by its experts.
God might be dead, but his place in man's hearts is not vacated so easily, the longing for some superstructure in the universe that guides us is a promise given to us by intelligence: we understand so that we may utilise. The notion that things are beyond our understanding is irreconcilable with our way of existence, it is a notion upon which we cannot act. And in this vacuum of a guiding superstructure, more than science or the new mysticism, the economic, finance driven structure of society has staked it's claim.
When christianity colonized europe, their method was to tie god up with all manner of festivities and practices. Easter became about the resurrection of christ, striking a cross across one's chest an everyday god luck charm, and so forth. God's omnipresence made manifest by it's adherents. In much the same manner, the economic, the market, has spread it's tentacles into every aspect of society, much moreso than in any period in history. There are few activities not involving a monetary transaction of sorts: going out with friends, social services such as education and healthcare. The scope of any meme or practise is determined by how often it's called for, where it might apply, and in this where economy and finance have usurped god's throne.
According to the enlightened bumlovers of ancient Greece, man was the measure of all things. All that we know and value is a result of human judgement. According to the Christians, God was the measure of all things, and we mere mortals should heed his judgement. How did a string of digits preceded by a $ find itself in this position? And more importantly: why is the belief so common that is the best we can do?
Anyone got some nice suggestions for this?
I can see how that might anger the religions people but I don't think it would "spawn" a riot. The text is not THAT disturbing 🙂 I think your friend could do much better as he's obviously good with words.
Fully agreed. I did manage to see some heated debate under religious people about this text. But it mainly goes into the area like "How can someone see holy things being like money?"
There could be some better word choices here, think the author of this quote is touching on a topic that could use some discussion and that is the whole donation process.
I find it interesting how there are people who relish in inducing anger and discomfort in others.
If all human beings freely made the choice to be selfless and therefore were genuinely concerned with the well being of others then the world would indeed be a very different place.
Totally agree there, its almost like all the devs in the world coming together to make the epic space game for the entire world to enjoy 🙂
