To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I was looking over the Infinity's 2009 Retrospective post and a few things caught my eye after doing some reading: http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infini ... &Itemid=48
I was reading some posts on the economy engine for the game and the attention to detail is stellar really. 'USNavyFish' has some really great ideas on how stations/factories will need supply and how prices will be effected etc.. I can't wait to read more on the economy since in this type of game it really will be a huge part of the whole experience.
Here is some of the communities building models they have designed or imagined http://www.infinity-universe.com/~contr ... Index.html
If they make everything they said they will, this will be the eve breaker, and will remain on top for some time.
It will be the best space sim ever in my opinion
Agreed. When I read Crayfish's response to how ships might look after some time in space that textures and other things will scar and make your ship look used and abused I was amazed. That is really a first, generally all the ships in all the games I have played were always new and shiny even after a heated battle 🙂
But what will make the game shine is the community input and use of their models. That alone shows that this is a community game and the players will support it. Infinity may not have the funding of EVE Online but give it time and when it comes out look out.
Like I said before after reading several postings on the economy that they are putting together this is going to be as real and alive as you can get one. Oh and yes I will be making a SpaceSimCentral Outpost somewhere 🙂
The only problem i see with this game is that it has too many features.I don't if it is possible for all of them to be in a game hosted on a server,it will simply be too much i think.
Did you see how big the galaxy is supposed to be?
And imagine players will be able to build on planets..imagine the number of things that need to be saved, accessed etc and there are other features besides this.
I don't know how they will do it.
I don't know about that. To me it sounds like the devs are trying to make it have features yes but to scale them down so your not overwhelmed. From the Q&A the game didn't sound like it would be overwhelming, maybe overwhelming in scope because you have the procedurely generated universe and planets.
They say no aliens in the game so it is really player driven game so if you want to be a pirate you can, a miner, hauler, etc. But game will have a host of different ships and you can customize your ship systems and weapon loadouts which is in most games. Only other thing is setting up mining stations and colonies/outposts, but that is a little bit like the X games. Heh in a way it is Elite + Freelancer + X Games all in one game.
Where the thread about the economy D1 cant seem to find it.
It's right here http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infini ... c=8359.780
Now the thread is over 40pgs but there is a lot ideas and thoughts that are just great. Pay attention to USNavyFish posts because he is the main guy behind it from my gathering.
