To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

C64 Emulator on Iphone. Elite to be added

OK. So, lets do a quick recap.

1. Iphone/Ipod Touch store has a new app, found here.

2. Real cool, never owned a C64. However, this article caught the eye.

3. Comence hubaglbaguhguing.

So yeah. Elite. C64 Emulator, Ipod touch. LET IT BE SO.

I have a burning desire for a handheld Elite. (That isn't buggy. I'm looking at you DS elite.) So this has me thrilled, now wether it actually gets released is up for debate.

That is good news 🙂 Lots of great games for the C64! Any sign yet of an Amiga emulator?

Just remember they don't support roms you have to wait for the dev to make it available, since they have to do something with the control scheme least from the pics.

I would say 80% of the C64 games are out there for free if you have a emulator. I would like to see android do a better job with this since a lot of the android tablets coming out have usb support so you could use game roms.

Yeah, but I'm fairly certain most of the emulators available for the Iphone that have such capabilities require you to jailbreak your iphone/Ipod. 🙁

I'm certainly no expert on any of this however. I just want a hand-held Elite. ^_^

*EDIT*

http://toucharcade.com/2010/12/09/exclu ... ith-video/ - Amiga emulator in progress. Nothing released yet as far as I can tell.

I honestly don't know much about the Amiga, so I remain neutral on the subject. That being said, the developer of the C64 project is the head of the Amiga project as well, so that gives me hope.

I'm also worried about Elite as a title for both systems. As I understand it, a full keyboard was utilized on both the C64 and the Amiga. Looking at the screens, the keyboard looks pretty small as it is...

Lastly, games. I don't have the benefit of Nonstalgia, so I'm not sure what other games besides Elite would be good buys and such. I guess I'll have to search the old fashioned way. 🙂

Hope you can speed up the emulator as the C64 was the slowest version of Elite.

That's a good point Ironhound raised about Elite needing a keyboard, they would be better off porting the NES version of the game to the Ipod.

Never played the java one.

I was fast enough to download iDos from itunes, before apple remove it. I will try and install Elite+, and Frontier to my Ipad (just for the fun of it. I prefer playing these games with DosBox, on my PC).

I have an Ipod touch, so Java is out of the question with out jailbreaking my system. (something I won't do.) So, I'm fairly certain that the java version is not possible. ( I did load it up on my pc and did a test dock, worked easily enough, so I think the Java version is nice.)

I consider Elite to be one of the perfect travel games for me. Unfortunately getting it on a handheld device is a considerable pain. I have it on my DS, but its quite buggy, and far from finished. I was hoping the ipod had something similair, but even Galaxy on Fire just isn't as enjoyable for me. So, here's to hoping the C64 version goes well. ^_^

Well, there was Darxide EMP for 60 series Nokia phones and pocket PCs a while back. Why oh why didn't Frontier Developments put more "Elite" features in this? A missed opportunity for sure 🙄

Can't you just run it on Dosbox? Or does the Iphone not have that?

Well Android phones have the aDosbox app, which should run elite, FE2 and FFE.

Although I've had my Android phone for all of a few hours so I have yet to test that out.

Its very easy to do....doubly so with a touch, as you don't need to worry about preserving radio functions.

Iphone does not have a dosbox app, unless we are talking jailbreaking the thing. Im on the fence I guess. Doing ALOT of research into it, since I have a business trip coming up, and will be away from computors for a while.
