To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Found a nice little video that gives an update on how the two Voyager probes are doing and what will happen to them in the future. 70s tech might not be that impressive by today's standards but never let it be said it wasn't tough! 😮
Thanks Geraldine, I enjoyed this. The time spans they talk about make humans seem so insignificant. Just shows that we can really build a great satellite, space is a harsh place and we have 40-50yro tech that is still working. We could make a replacement voyager 10000x better.
Yes a new Voyager could do a lot more than the old 70s originals but, would they last as long? Simple and robust seem to be the thing if your designing for very long duration space flight rather than fancy fragile tech. 😉
Hey there Watchmaker! o/
Your welcome. 😉
"The two Voyagers will outlast Earth," said Bill Kurth, co-author of one of the papers and a research scientist at the University of Iowa. "They're in their own orbits around the galaxy for five billion years or longer. And the probability of them running into anything is almost zero."
"Almost" 😉Â
