To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I purchased this the other day and already have downloaded the client software, all 15 or so gigabytes of it <img src=' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I have been waiting for this game for some time now and I have watched a few videos and did some reading but I wanted to go into the game fresh so I didn't play in any beta events. So I will be looking forward to Aug. 25 (when the early access starts) to play a little. Just wanted to know if anyone on SSC is going to be playing and if you might have chosen a race and class you might play?

I am thinking about playing a Sylvari Thief. So if anyone is playing we could hook up in-game and have a blast.

So what are your thoughts on GW2 so far?

I pre-purchased before the first beta weekend but lost interest after. I like it better than TERA, SWTOR, Rift, or WoW but didn't get into it. The only MMORPG I played for more than 2-3 week maximum has been Eve Online.

RPG wise I currently play Last Story on the WII but would certainly join you in GW2.

What is really great about GW2 is that there are no subscription fees and quality wise I don't think that the other I stated above are better. Quests were definitely less boring in GW2 but still worse than those of the average non-MMORPG. It is difficult to give the player the impression that there is a story and that he is the main actor if there are thousands of players.

I have no problem paying monthly fee for a game as long as it is well done, its when you pay $60 for the game and then find out you don't want to play it after your 30days. What is hurting the new MMO's is the flood of F2P MMO's, not counting the flooding of the market in MMO's itself. Back when I first started playing MMO's in 2000 there were not many at all and the games had to be good for you to stay and play and they were all monthly fee games. Today there is hundreds of MMO's to pick from and 80% have no fees and use micro-transactions. Only bad thing is that most games have no content/story to speak of and I think that is what caused me to stop playing in about 2005 and I haven't really played a MMO since, well I played GW1 briefly for a few months.

SWTOR does have some good story, but from friends that play the game you go through the content to quickly, that is why their subscriptions have been dropping like a stone. I think GW2 dynamic questing system and group mechanics will impress a lot of people, game is tailored to different player types as well, since you can actually level to 80 without killing a single mob, you can only PvP or you can do a mixture of PvP, PvE, WvW and others to get you to 80. One thing that is drawing me to GW2 personally is that the game will be based on your skill and your character design to be well rounded, no longer will it be a gear fest.

I hope I like the game and a huge plus is that it is F2P after you pay for the game which is great because if you get bored you can always come back a few months later and jump back in. Yeah there will be expansions but if ArenaNet uses the same model they will be about $20 each, so not that bad.

I don't know the name of any of the servers yet, but I will have to see what is available at launch, are they separating it by continent?

The weekend I played I was in "Samael". EU and US server (multiple instances each) were separated. I remember chosing that server because it wasn't already full. Waiting time was acceptable and certainly not representative for the game after launch since for all prepurchase owners it was more or less the first time to get into the game.

I didn't play in the beta on purpose, but I did play for a few minutes the other day for that stress test. Was actually surprised how well it went, knowing there was a lot of people trying to login and play.
