To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

IdTech engine and textures problems

Like many other players i experienced a lot of texture problems with IdTech engine that powers all id games from Rage.

I have a radeon hd 6850, with Rage i had a lot of textures flickering and pop up.

With Wolfstein new order less flickering than rage but anyway it's unsolved.

Than i installed wolfstein the old blood and this is even worse, a lot of flickering and pop up, it's a mess!

I tryed everithing but the problems remain...i thought it depends on the old gaphic card but i read that this textures problems appear even on recent VGA.

Have you solved this?

I will update my vga with a gtx 1060 or a radeon rx 480...will it resolve?

Doom 4  has the same problems?

I have Rage, I just haven't played it yet with my AMD card. But it could be a multitude of settings that could be causing your problems but it is weird that you say these issues are only with ID games?

I wasn't going to buy Doom 4 until I upgrade my graphics sometime next year, but Rage is what 4-5yrs old now you should be able to run that pretty smoothly on most recent hardware.

I tryed a lot of graphics changes on Rage but it's always the same, this kind of problem is very frequent with ID tech engine but a friend of mine told me that it has been improved a lot with Doom 4.

Now the game run smooth without texture tearing.

Anyway the main problem is that ID tech engine requires a lot of virtual memory, at October i will change my VGA and i probably buy Doom 4....eh eh! :spiteful:
