To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Sins of a Solar Empire is a great mix of the 4X and RTS genre with absolutely stunning graphics. And it's price is pretty low now (at least in Central-Eu). On the negative side, it doesn't have a story campaign. These guys also amde Galactic Civilisations, which is a classic.

Sword of the Stars is a real hardcore 4x game IMO, so I only recommend it if you truly love the genre - because then it' a real gem. Graphics sVck though.

I think we can call Hegemony: Legions of Iron a 4x game too. It looks great, it's easy to play and has a good story. Same guys did the "mother-of-all-spacegames" Imperium Galactica I-II (the "father-of-all" is Elite 😛 ). They're old, rare, and not sure if they run on XP or Win7. But they sure kick @ss!

These are all I played and can think of ATM. Heard good stuff about Space Empires IV and V, but didn't try it (yet).

These games are all different from the X-series, as X is only "partially" a 4x game.

Hey Snowmane and welcome to SSC

You cannot forget Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, there is quite a few mods for this game to help after you finish it and there is some to enhance the story/gameplay as well.

I was thinking about adding it to my list but I don't think Nexus TJI is a 4x game 😀

But it's true that its a great game. Pity the sequel didn't get made.

Sorry but I gotta point out an error you made, Sins of a Solar Empire was not developed by the game guys who made the Galactic Civilizations games, only PUBLISHED. Stardock only published Sins of a Solar Empire, whereas Stardock both developed and published the Galactic Civilizations games.

My bad. 😳

But next time please only quote the part which is wrong - you gave me a heart-attack because of the full quote and the word "error" 😆

Seconded:

- Galactic Civilisations 2 - (with Twilight of the Arnor expansion) - Quite simply the best 4X game money can buy.

- Haegemonia: Legions of Iron - One of my all-time favourite space RTS's. Beautiful to look at, to listen to and to play. Plays like a mix between the Civ games and C&C, keeping the best bits of both. You'll have fun with this, I assure you.

Just a quick note.. if you wanna play Haegemonia, it runs like crap on Win7x64. Randomly crashes in all that. If your using XP it's probably fine. Not sure how it runs on Vista, but wouldnt hold my breath. It might run good on Win7x32 but no idea.

Did I miss GalCiv II in this thread???

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galactic_C ... read_Lords

To me it has everything, plus an incredible ship designer which lets me go wild brining my dream ships to reality.

Space Empires V is an excellent game, and I hope you like it. Word of warning though, make sure you get the most recent patch at www.malfador.com as it was VERY buggy upon release. If your not a fan of steam, you should also still be able to buy the game at Strategy First's website. Post back how you like it, and if your interested I still play it and mod/tweak it, and wouldn't mind a multiplayer game, perhaps a couple turns a day or something through email, or a full networked game.
