To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hello Sci Fi gamers,
My name is Daniel Kole and I've been working on a video game for PC called Mercenary Dark. It's kinda like diablo, torchlight, and borderlands. I was just wondering if there was any interest in a video game like this out there? Does it sound cool? Would you guys play it? I've attached some screenshots and there is a gameplay video here: http://www.kickstart...-rpg-video-game
We just started a Kickstarter for it, but I would like to know if anyone out there likes the concept and the graphics?

Ah, I responded to you welcome thread before I saw your game thread...

Hi Daniel,
I have to say I really like the concept art of the game. seems to be star trek inspired but I could be wrong. too bad that those sweet 3D concepts end up as 2D top down models due to the game design.
the introduction video is informative and promising, grafic design seems already polished to a certain degree.
I would have immediately pledged if there wouldn't have been 2 issues from my side. the combination of having to spend at least 25$ to have the game and then waiting for 2 years until I receive it, is too much of a hurdle for me.
i would have spent 20-25$ if there would be more game footage/details and the release would be next year. or I would have spent 10-15$ with the current informations and waiting time.
what I would expect as a regular backer on kickstarter: offer more tiers (the jump from 25$ to 60$ is already kind of huge), add some more goodies and deliver even more gameplay/information about your game (i know, some infos have to be reserved to have something for regular updates).
I hope your kickstarter will make it on the first time, I will surely buy the game when it is released. If not, just do another one I will be happy to pledge on a later time.
p.s.: another problem for now might be having 'Star Citizen' sucking the money out of peoples wallets.
Thank you both for your awesome feedback... I'll try to respond as best I can...
Yes, both those games are awesome. My goal for Mercenary Dark is to basically have a Borderlands/Diablo type game in space with starships. I've always been a Trekkie... love phasers, photon torpedos, and anything technology that I can see, read, or play... so with my passion to design video games, and play them, I have created Mercenary Dark. Currently in Mercenary Dark there are hardpoints on the starships where the turrets/weapons sit... each one has a firing arc and is completely independent of the others when in combat... and really makes for some very interesting and exciting battles.
We are planning on porting Mercenary Dark to iPad/iPhone/Android etc... just want to get the game finished for PC/MAC/LINIX before making the jump to handhelds. I believe Mercenary Dark will be a fantastic story/universe that has a lot of potential to grow and evolve as time goes on.
Thank you so much! I am really excited to be announcing Mercenary Dark to the world and see what people think and what they are wanting from the game. Any help is very appreciated.
Well... if we don't reach our funding goal we plan on trying again. I'm really encouraged that so many people so far are getting excited about it.
I also wanted to chime in about Mercenary Dark. I introduced myself in that forum, so I won't do it here.
Daniel is the most talented graphic artist I have ever met. He and I release DeadlySpace for the xBox as an Indie game together. He did most of the work on that one. I just helped kick it out the door and support the release.
We are both committed to Mercenary Dark whether it funds or not. We sure hope it funds because if it does then we can do it a lot sooner than if it doesn't. I know the time we have quoted seems like a long time. We just want to do it right and very well.
We didn't want to promise to get it done in a few months because we are both experienced enough to know that just would not be realistic. This is a labor of love for us and something we both really want to play ourselves.
Keep the questions coming and please help us get the word out. One big way is to share our YouTube video with everyone. Even those who are not interested in games can watch it and help it become popular.
Thanks again for the comments and support!
I just noticed the obligatory 'And all rewards from the previous Tiers' text is missing in your 60$ and above tiers on your Kickstarter page.
I guess everyone might assume this, so did I. Thats why I didn't notice it before, I guess. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Mercenary Dark not doing very well on their Kickstarter, still got about 11 days to but it not looking as if they will hit their target.
I have been surprised it hasn't gotten more support. The artwork looks good and the game concepts are solid. Only thing I can think of that is hurting this effort is the estimated release of Oct 2014, that is a long way off. And with being a indie developer who knows what might happen between now and then. I usually don't jump on games that are more than a year away. Like I haven't even jumped on Star Citizen yet or Project Eternal and things like that, they look awesome but too far away to even worry about it.
As usual, great projects will learn from their mistakes on Kickstarter and re-roll a new campaign.
We pointed out some of the flaws quite early and I am sure they had even more detailed feedback elsewhere. The game looks overall promising, so I have no doubt we will see it again.
