To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Some Steam Questions

First off: I wasn't sure where to post this, so if I ended up in the wrong section, please move it to the right one. Thanks :]

So.. a few days ago, in my search for space sim games, I decided to make a Steam account to see what it's all about and in hope to maybe find a nice game alongside some nice people to play with.

However, when I joined the SSC group on steam, I couldn't enter the chat, saying I need to add games first. Now I haven't bought any games from Steam itself yet, but do own and have installed some of the games it offers as well (like DarkStar One). Yet it doesn't seem to count those.

I tried contacting their support, but it seems like I have to make another account just to access the support, which i categorically refuse to do. So I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the problem I'm facing.

Furthermore, should I decide to purchase a game through Steam, does it store the install.exe in one of it's folders so I can back it up?

Thanks in advance!

Don't know about the SSC group on Steam D1 will have to answer that one.

As for Steam itself any game you buy from Steam or register with steam will download into your steam folder on you hard drive it then can be launched through the desktop or by using Steam itself.

Ah I see. I wasn't sure if it actually downloaded the entire game before installation or would do a streaming installation. Thanks for the info!

Hey MsOcean, joining the group should be open and there should be no restrictions in place (or least I checked them). In the steam client you will want to click on your username in the bar and then click groups. From there, search for groups and enter 'spacesimcentral' and you should be able to join or use the link on the site (that link may not work if your not logged into steam). And I think steam also has some sort of way to have you add your disc based games to your inventory (I haven't done this yet personally).
