To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Here is a tailer of Star Wars: The Old Republic's space combat in action.

The action and the visuals look good but there is no depth to the flight engine and seems like you can only go left/right on the screen. The smoke trails look great, I noticed that your reticle is missing? You think it would be there for 3rd person view.

Another Star Wars game, this one is an online game. At first I thought it was the sequel to Kotor, which I used to play when I still had my xbox, but apparently not. I still don't know the gameplay, can't watch the video now, connection is in the state of third world with typical third-rated network.

Anyone want to test this one?

The brief FAQ says:

Quote:

Q:What is Star Warsâ„¢: The Old Republicâ„¢?

A:Star Wars: The Old Republic represents a new approach to online entertainment, featuring immersive storytelling, dynamic combat, and groundbreaking companion characters. The game takes place in the Star Warsâ„¢ galaxy approximately three hundred years after the events of Star Warsâ„¢: Knights of the Old Republicâ„¢.

Q:When does Star Wars: The Old Republic take place in relation to the movies?

A:Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place more than 3,500 years before the rise of Darth Vader. The most powerful Sith Empire in history has emerged from deep space to attack the Republic and its legendary Jedi guardians. After decades of war, a tenuous truce has been established between the Sith Empire and the Republic, but events occurring in the game are leading the galaxy back to an all-out war.

Q:How does Star Wars: The Old Republic relate to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?

A:Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place approximately three hundred years after the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). At the conclusion of the Jedi Civil War in KOTOR, Revan disappeared into unknown space in search of a great threat to the Republic, an expanding Sith Empire led by a mysterious Emperor who planned vengeance for his ancient Jedi enemies. Revan never returned from unknown space, but the Sith Empire did, kicking off a war with the Republic that lasted for decades. Now, despite the uneasy truce created by the Treaty of Coruscant, the tension among the divided star systems is threatening to once again tear the galaxy apart.

Q:How do I join the Star Wars: The Old Republic community?

A:All you have to do is use the sign up button at the top right of the page and fill in a few details such as your email address and date of birth. You’ll receive a verification link in your email which, once used, will activate your account.

Hi Aknid

First off welcome to SSC.

For some good background story on SWTOR I would recommend watching the timeline videos: http://www.gametrailers.com/game/star-w ... blic/10449

But like the FAQ says it is after the previous KOTOR games. The space battles are really just some action thrown in why you travel from system to system is my thoughts. Most of the game is story based driven by your choices. Which I know will be good because BioWare is a pretty solid development house and I love their games. I personally want to see more of the PvP aspect of the game. It looks like BioWare has covered the majority of the other aspects (ie: character development, combat tactics, plot/story)

I think I signed up to be a tester a while ago but what are the odds 🙂 I never seemed to get picked for the high profile betas.

Thanks for the welcome, been meaning to post since registered, but my rusty motorola e398 just don't like to cooperate too well.

As for signing, why don't you throw your weight around (as usual 😀 ) tell them you're an admin of a good site with lots of space gamers supporting you.

About the timeline, I'm a bit of a reader here, not a watcher, I never watched the movies but the rerun in local TV, but I have a pretty good sense of Star Wars universe from reading here and there, including finishing some fiction books.

Space combat looks a little like the Rogue Leader games on the Game Cube/N64.

What a turn off and what a shame.

Maybe this game isn't meant to be played in space and from what i saw the ground isn't any better.
